Support Worker – Active Overnight (Complex Care)
We are seeking a dedicated, experienced, and reliable Support Worker to join a collaborative care team supporting a young person with complex needs.
About the Role
This position involves working alongside a team of established independent support workers who are currently providing care. While the team is working well, there are identified gaps in support that we are looking to strengthen with the right candidate.
The role requires active overnight shifts, with a focus on both direct support and proactive preparation for ongoing care.
About the Participant
Non-verbal
Complex support needs requiring close monitoring
Has Pica behaviours (tendency to place non-food items in their mouth)
Can move very quickly and may run, requiring high vigilance and responsiveness
Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred support in line with care and behaviour support plans
- Closely monitor safety due to complex needs and Pica behaviours
- Remain calm and effective in high-pressure or behavioural situations
- Safely redirect behaviours when required
- Work collaboratively with current support workers to ensure consistency
- Maintain accurate documentation using a communication app (including notes, incident reports, and allied health updates for NDIA compliance)
During overnight shifts, complete structured tasks while the participant sleeps, such as:
- Watching training materials
- Cleaning and household organisation
- Laundry tasks
- Preparing activities for upcoming shifts
Essential Requirements
- Non-smoker
- Physically fit and able to respond quickly, including running if necessary
- Calm, composed, and confident under pressure
- High attention to detail
- Ability to confidently redirect behaviours
- Available for active overnight shifts
- Willingness to work as part of a team and follow structured systems
Preferred Qualities
Mature, reliable, and grounded
Lifestyle flexibility with minimal external commitments impacting overnight work
Experience supporting individuals with complex behavioural or high-support needs
