U14s Tier 2 Grand Final β Cathie Raiders vs Camden Haven Eagles π
The U14s Cathie Raiders travelled to Taree last night to take on the Camden Haven Eagles in their Grand Final, and what a game it was!
The game started well for the Raiders, with Zayla crossing the line early after some fancy footwork and backing it up by converting her own try. Camden Haven hit back after a collision saw the ball come loose, allowing the Eagles to scoop it up and score, adding the extras with a conversion.
The Eagles then found some pace down the wing to score again, sending the Raiders into half-time trailing 10β6.
Camden Haven scored shortly after the break, diving on a well-placed kick to extend their lead. But the Raiders were far from done.
The Cathie girls piled on the pressure and had several chances to get back across the line, with the ball going down over the line on multiple occasions only to be denied. Eventually, the pressure told, with Andi producing a fantastic diving effort to score and bring the Raiders back into the game.
Not long after, Zayla put in a clever little chip and chase. It looked like she had scored, with the referee initially pointing to the spot to even up the scoreline, before the touch judge ruled that she had been tagged.
The Eagles eventually sealed the game with a final try, but the scoreline certainly doesnβt tell the whole story.
The girls were understandably devastated with the result, but I honestly couldnβt be more proud of the fight they showed to get themselves back into the game. With a little more luck, the Raiders could have found themselves with the opportunity to kick for the win.
This is an amazing group of young ladies who played their hearts out for each other. When the cards were stacked against them, they kept fighting, kept supporting each other and never gave up. That is something they should be incredibly proud of.
π Player of the Game: Bronte Cross was awarded Player of the Game by NRL Pathways for her outstanding defensive efforts and determined running. What a well-deserved recognition!
Well done, Raiders. πππ
You might not have come away with the result you wanted, but you canβt be upset with the way you played or the way you fought for each other.
Hold your heads high, girls. You did yourselves, your families and your club proud. πβ€οΈ
