π Great tips by plastic free July πΏ
To kickstart our year, over the next few weeks weβre sharing 5 easy ways to reduce plastic exposure β which is beneficial for our health and to avoid waste.
This week weβre tackling: microwaving food.
When heating up plastic in the microwave, an unknown (but likely high) amount of chemical compounds can get released into the food. To avoid this, simply choose ceramic or heat-proof glass containers with a ceramic plate on top (instead of the plastic lid or plastic wrap) when reheating or cooking food in the microwave.
When it comes to food storage, healthy choices include choosing glass or stainless steel containers or simply lining plastic containers with a paper towel or aluminum foil to create a barrier between the food and plastic lid (and wait for food to cool down first).
