Well, I must admit, this is a post I never imagined I would be writing.
In case you haven't seen on the news or social media, there is an influx of AI glasses with filming and recording capabilities on the market. The main issue is that once the recording is done ... where does it go from there and what does the recorder do with it? This has caused many privacy concerns for people, as it is not always obvious that recording is taken place, and there is certainly not up to date and appropriate legislation around this area as of yet.
We have decided that here at Move to Live these recording glasses are not permitted to be worn within our Clinic and Studio spaces by clients, visitors, or our team. We constantly have clients who are having vulnerable chats and attempting to undertake movement in a safe environment, and having recording devices running prevents this safety, exposes them to potential privacy breaches, as well as whatever happens with those recordings after the fact. We are not willing to have this risk in our space.
Please leave any glasses that fall into this category at home. If we suspect you have the glasses on, we will request that you put them back in your car before your appointment. If you do not wish to take off your AI / recording devices, you will not be permitted to undertake your session that day and will need to reschedule. You will see this reflected in our written policies soon.
Now, we do understand that some of this technology has the potential to be life changing for our vision impaired clients, and we are happy to discuss this on a case by case basis in the future as the technology improves. However, the legislation is nowhere near where it needs to be to protect people's privacy and data at this point in time, so this is the decision we have made to maintain our clients' safety and keep Move to Live the delightful space we know and love.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to have a chat.
