As the New Year begins, we are proud to share an important milestone for rural and remote healthcare in Western Australia.
Dr Michael Livingston as a Specialist GP and Rural Generalist has been selected for Cohort 2 of the WA ADHD GP Training Program making Livingston Medical one of the very few rural medical groups with advanced GP/RG training in ADHD assessment and prescribing.
This program is highly subscribed and limited to 65 GPs in Western Australia.
Dr Livingston has been selecteded which means that from the middle of this year all patients from Livingston Medical Clinic will have direct access to a diagnosis, with initial and ongoing prescribing/management for ADHD without having to fork out significant fees with a Psychiatrist or go on a long waitlist with a paediatricain, which is a significant step forward for improving access to ADHD care across our rural and remote communities.
What this means for patients:

✔️ Care delivered closer to home, reducing the need for long-distance travel
✔️ Services designed specifically with rural and remote patients and families in mind
Importantly, this model allows Livingston Medical doctors to refer internally and, where appropriate, participate in shared care and coprescribing arrangements without the associated huge financial costs of travel and reviews that currently exist.
This will ensure ADHD care is delivered within our existing medical teams, allowing for careful assessment and ongoing monitoring of comorbidities, physical health, mental health, and treatment response all managed in house and close to home.
The training program runs from March to July 2026 and focuses on evidence-based ADHD diagnosis, safe prescribing, and managing co-occurring conditions.

When will appointments be available?
We anticipate opening ADHD assessment appointments from mid 2026, following completion of mandatory training components and final approvals.
Booking and fee details will be announced closer to this time.
We would also like to reassure patients that we can currently accept and support stable ADHD patients through shared care and coprescribing arrangements where appropriate to ensure treatment remains safe, effective, and well coordinated.
We know access to ADHD care has been particularly challenging for rural families. This is a meaningful step toward closing that gap, and we’re committed to delivering this service carefully, safely, and sustainably.
