What if the version of you shaped by your past was never meant to define who you become?
There are parts of you that were shaped by everything you have lived through.
The one who struggled with relationships.
The one who found it difficult to follow through.
The anxious one.
The people pleaser.
The angry one.
The one who kept choosing familiar patterns.
The one who didn’t yet feel confident enough, brave enough, safe enough.
Those parts of you didn’t appear for no reason.
They hold the imprint of real experiences.
Of things that hurt.
Things that changed you.
Things that shaped what you came to believe about yourself, other people and the world around you.
Some of these ways of being may have helped you belong, cope, protect yourself or feel safe.
Your experiences were real.
The ways you learned to respond to them made sense.
And still…
what happened to you does not have to decide who you are allowed to become.
Sometimes we repeat the stories of who we have been for so long that they begin to sound less like our history and more like our identity.
“That’s just who I am.”
But what if it isn’t?
You can honour the person you needed to become to move through what you experienced, without asking that version of you to determine who you must be next.
Because healing isn’t about rejecting who you have been.
It’s about creating enough space to ask:
Who am I now?
What do I believe now?
What feels aligned now?
What am I ready to choose differently now?
You are allowed to surprise yourself.
You are allowed to respond differently than you did last time.
You are allowed to outgrow identities that once felt permanent.
And perhaps becoming isn’t even about creating a new you.
Perhaps it’s about gently releasing what you no longer need to carry…
so there is more room to remember and embody who you are underneath it all. 🌿
Your past can explain you without defining you.
