We are deeply concerned by proposed changes to the S*x Discrimination Act. These changes would roll back legal protections for trans and gender diverse Australians, protections that help people access services safely, participate in community life, and be treated fairly.

Trans and gender diverse communities are already facing more hostility and discrimination. Australia should be strengthening inclusion, not winding it back.

We have signed Equality Australia's petition. If you support a fairer Australia, we encourage you to add your voice too.

Trans rights are human rights.

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. It’s an important opportunity to come together and stand against the abuse, mistreatment and neglect of older people.

We all have a role to play in awareness raising and prevention of elder abuse. We draw attention to the ways older women experience ageism and gender inequality. Learn more about how we can all contribute to change so all older people are seen and valued in our communities.

There are many ways to get involved:
⭐ Explore Celebrate Ageing’s [un]Silencing of Older Women resources.
Learn how gender inequality is experienced by older women and how
to address elder abuse with a gender lens.
⭐ Check out COTA Victoria & Seniors Rights Victoria exhibition, where older people
share advice to their younger selves.
⭐ Centre the voices and lived experience of older women and people
in your daily life.

Refugee Week has begun, marking the 40th year of celebrating refugees who now call Australia home.

Since 1947, Australia has welcomed one million people seeking safety. This year the theme is A Million Stories, celebrating the people and journeys behind that milestone. Each story is unique and together, these stories help shape who we are.

At Your Community Health, you are welcome, no matter where you come from. We are here for refugees and people seeking asylum, offering specialist healthcare and support, close to home.

This Men's Health Week, the national theme is 101 Reasons to See Your GP.

Did you know our Darebin Men's Shed has been part of YourCH for decades? It is a place where men come together to share skills, work on projects and look out for each other. Many friendships have started here. So have a lot of good conversations.

This year's theme is about seeing the GP early. For physical health, social and emotional wellbeing and other preventable health issues.

The Darebin Men's Shed is based at our wulempuri barring (East Reservoir) health centre, so health services are close by when they are needed.

Want to join or volunteer at the Men's Shed? Visit our website today.

This Mabo Day, we commemorate and celebrate the late Eddie Koiki Mabo. Eddie Mabo spent a decade fighting a legal case that would change Australia.

On this day 34 years ago, the High Court delivered its decision in Mabo v Queensland (No 2), overturning terra nullius, the legal fiction that this continent was "land belonging to no one" when the British arrived. It was never empty. First Peoples had lived here, cared for Country, and held law and custom for tens of thousands of years.

The Mabo decision finally recognised that truth in law. Eddie Mabo did not live to see it — he passed away just months before the judgment — but his legacy reshaped the nation.

That same fight for recognition and justice continues today. Here in Victoria, Australia's first Treaty has been signed, with a permanent voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in State Parliament.

Your Community Health stands firmly behind Treaty and the right of Aboriginal people to self-determination — to make decisions about the things that affect their lives, health and communities. We honour Eddie Mabo's landmark stand for justice and how it has paved the way for a better future for First Peoples.

We are thrilled to be part of Victorian Department of Health new Naloxone dispensing machine trial. Our East Reservoir health centre at 125 Blake Street will soon have one of the machines onsite. It will give our community better access to this free, easy-to-use medication that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose and save lives.

Naloxone works on he**in, potent synthetic opioids and prescription opioids like fentanyl and morphine. It is non-addictive, non-intoxicating and you do not need medical training to help someone with this easy to use nasal spray.

We will post an update here once the Naloxone dispensing machine is installed.

Today, Pride Month is about celebration. Colour, joy, rainbows and being exactly who you are.

But Pride did not begin as a party. It began as a protest.

In 1969, trans women and people of colour led what is known as the 'Stonewall uprising'. They stood up to violence and refused to be silenced. Their courage built the foundation for the rights and freedoms many people share today.

That spirit still matters. Many LGBTIQA+ people face hostility and fear right now. We see this most of all for trans and gender diverse people.

At Your Community Health, we stand with our LGBTIQA+ community. We believe everyone deserves safe, affirming care. And we are committed to that every day, not just in June.

We offer LGBTIQA+ Health services, a Trans and Gender Diverse program, and free legal support through Q+Law.
