September is Dementia Awareness Month.

Dementia affects more than memory. It can impact connection, confidence and everyday life for those living with the condition and the people who care about them.

Through our Memory Matters Appeal, we're raising funds to support specialised programs, meaningful activities and compassionate care that help residents remain engaged, connected and supported.

Every donation helps create more moments of joy, comfort and connection.

A yellow flower, a shared moment and a simple question: are you OK?

Across Mercy Health today, teams marked R U OK? Day in their own ways, with wellbeing activities and opportunities to pause and connect with colleagues.

A genuine check-in can help someone feel noticed, supported and less alone. Today is an important reminder, but these conversations matter every day. Make time to ask, listen and keep the conversation going.

A big thank you to our partners — Mercy Health Foundation, Aware Super, Smartau, Fitness Passport and Healthify — for supporting our activities and helping us create safe, welcoming spaces.

Looking after your health doesn’t always require a major change. Sometimes, it begins with one small step. It might be making the appointment you’ve been putting off, raising a concern that doesn’t feel quite right, asking another question or giving yourself permission to rest.

This Women’s Health Week, the theme “Do it anyway” encourages women to prioritise their health on their own terms—not by pushing through pain or pressure, but by recognising what they need and seeking support when they need it.

Across every stage of life, our teams are here to listen and provide care that respects each woman’s individual needs, experiences and choices.

Professor Thomas Chan has helped shape care at Werribee Mercy Hospital through his calm, collaborative leadership and commitment to the people we care for.

Now, he will bring that experience to his new role as Mercy Health’s Chief Medical Officer.

As Director of Medical Services at Werribee Mercy Hospital, Thomas has strengthened clinical governance, supported our medical workforce and advanced work to improve patient outcomes.

His experience, expertise and deep connection to our mission will guide his leadership as we continue working to provide safe, high-quality and compassionate care across our communities.

Congratulations, Thomas.

This week is National Child Protection Week and it’s all about shifting conversations into action. Conversations can spark ideas, build understanding and encourage reflection. Meaningful change happens when those conversations lead to practical action that strengthens support for children and families. Keeping children and young people safe is everyone’s responsibility - learn more at www.napcan.org.au/ncpw-2/.

Mercy Place Dandenong Lifestyle Assistant Marlene has spent the past seven years bringing joy, creativity and imagination into the lives of residents.

Her latest adventure transformed Mercy Place Dandenong into the ‘Living in Harmony’ ship for an armchair cruise on the high seas. Marlene and her fellow crew members invited residents to sing, dance and enjoy a special high tea — no passports required.

We loved seeing Marlene and her ‘shipmates’ share the fun with 7NEWS’ Bright Side. Through experiences like these, Marlene creates meaningful opportunities for residents to connect, participate and make new memories together.

A new bell at Mercy Hospital for Women will mark a meaningful moment for many women receiving treatment for gynaecological cancer.

Generously donated by a former patient, the bell offers women the opportunity to recognise the completion of their chemotherapy treatment. For those who choose to ring it, its sound can carry many emotions — relief, hope, reflection and celebration.

Every woman’s experience of cancer is different. This bell honours each individual journey and the courage it can take to move through treatment, one day at a time.

Pictured with the new bell are Rebecca, McGrath Cancer Care Nurse, Janiece, Clinical Nurse Consultant and Manager of the Day Chemotherapy Unit, and Kachina, Associate Nurse Unit Manager.

This Red Nose Day, we recognise the vital work of Red Nose Australia in funding research, promoting safer practices, and supporting families affected by the loss of a baby or child.

At Mercy Health’s Early Parenting Centres, our teams use Red Nose safe sleeping guidelines to help parents and carers create a safe sleep environment for their babies and implement these practices at home.
