At Macintyre Health, we are inspired by those who choose to live in Rural Queensland - the resilience, tenacity and sense of community that is inherent here. We are also inspired by the technology and innovation that has revolutionised Diabetes Management and how easily people are now able to live their day-to-day lives. Today we live at a moment where the majority of people have access to the int

ernet or mobile phones - the raw tools necessary to engage in possibilities such as Telehealth, Insulin Pump Therapy and Continuous/Flash Glucose Monitoring (among others). Macintyre Health also recognises that personal relationships are fundamental to successful Chronic Disease Management and Integration of Care. Often, we find, that someone will care more about their own management when they become aware, and believe, that we deeply do as well. At Macintyre Health, we provide education tailored to each person's needs - both clinical and personal. There is no stock-standard way to manage every person with Diabetes, and a tailored approach is key to success. When you become a patient of Macintyre Health, you will know that you have a partner, an ally, someone who will respect your wishes without judgement. Even if our mission sounds big, it starts small - and it starts in Goondiwindi.

If there's one thing Cass always has in her pantry as a diabetes dietitian, it's legumes - and honestly, once you know why, you'll never let them run out either. 🫘

We're kicking off a three-part series on the staples Cass swears by, starting with the humble chickpea, kidney bean, and beyond. These little powerhouses are high in fibre, low on the glycaemic index, and incredibly filling - which means they help keep blood sugar steady without a lot of effort.

Save this one, because parts two and three are coming and you'll want them all. ✨

The waiting room is not always a room.
Sometimes it's a lounge in the shearing quarters. Sometimes it's lying awake wondering if tomorrow will be worse. Sometimes it's just - waiting another week, because everything that getting help requires feels like too much all at once.
Laura Zimmerman writes about what that really looks like in our latest blog, alongside the findings from Submission 114. If you've ever been on that side of the system, or you love someone who has, it's worth a read.

Most people trying to manage blood glucose focus on cutting out bread and pasta and miss half the picture.
Oat milk in your coffee. A banana as a healthy snack. These all count too, and the amount of carbohydrate varies more than most people realise.

Knowing where carbs actually show up - not just the obvious ones - makes meal planning, insulin matching, and everyday food choices a lot less guesswork.

That's what our latest carousel breaks down. Swipe through if carb awareness is something you're working on. ➑️

Easier said than done when you're managing Type 1 diabetes and trying to stay active - but Jye ( )is living proof it's possible.

We had a chat with the legend himself about with T1D: how he uses his MiniMed 780g pump around training, why cardio and strength need totally different approaches, and his top tips for anyone starting their fitness journey with T1D.
Make sure to give Jye a follow, and read the interview on our blog!: www.macintyrehealth.com.au/five-minutes-with-jye-the-average-athlete-t1d-advocate-australia/

These are the general patterns - but how your body responds to exercise is individual, and it can vary depending on your medication, your baseline levels, and even the time of day. Start by checking your levels before and after exercise. Over time you'll build a clear picture of your own response, and exercise becomes a much less guesswork-filled part of your management.

People told us what it's actually like to access healthcare in rural and remote Australia. The drives that shouldn't have to happen. The waits that go on too long. The moment you're doing mental maths at home - can I afford the fuel, can I take the day off, is this bad enough yet?
It was a lot to hear. We put it in front of the Senate anyway, because that's what you do with trust when someone hands it to you.
