Ever notice your child has lots to tell you the moment you pick up the phone, jump in the shower, or one hour past their bedtime, but nothing when you ask, 'how was your day'? If this pie chart feels way too real, you're not alone. โค๏ธ

Building a strong connection with your child is important, but it doesnโ€™t have to be complicated.

Positive parent-child relationships can help to boost a child's psychological and social development, helping them to thrive in the world.

You don't have to have long chats with them about their day to grow your connection. Here are some other, simple ways to do it:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Show genuine interest in them. Small moments of attention can make your child feel valued.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Play together. Even short, playful interactions can mean so much.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Give emotional support, affection and calm responses to help your child feel secure.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Set boundaries with warmth, and consistent rules to create stability.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Create routines with your child. Shared routines can bring families closer.

Taking care of yourself can also make it easier for you to confidently connect with your child and help you to be more present and engaged.

Remember, thereโ€™s no formula for getting your parent-child relationship right. It doesnโ€™t have to be perfectโ€”it just has to be real.

[Image description: a pie chart in various shades of blue sits on a white background. A blue heading reads: Times my children want to talk to me. The pie chart segments are represented as follows: When I'm on the phone 8.6%. When it's time for bed 59.1%. When I ask about their day 1.1%. When I'm in the shower 21.5%. When I'm on the toilet 9.7%.]

Have your say on proposed NDIS new framework planning and NDIS support rules.

We are making changes to the NDIS to ensure it is sustainable for future generations.

The proposed rules explain how support needs assessments and budgets could work under a new planning approach. We're working with states, territories and the disability community on these changes.

We want to hear from NDIS participants and the disability community to help shape the final rules.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Consultation closes at 11.59 pm AEDT on 14 October 2026.

The NDIS is changing, and we'd like to understand what that means for people here in Central Queensland.

That's all today is. One hour by the river, and advocates from CCA ready to listen and write it down.

โ˜• Bring your lunch. Come for ten minutes if that's all you can manage. You don't need to speak in front of anyone โ€” a quiet chat is plenty - even listening is golden.

๐Ÿ“ And if you'd rather not talk at all, we'll have post-it notes. Write what's on your mind and stay anonymous.

Participant, family member, support worker, provider โ€” if this touches your life, you're welcome.
