🌿 Mabo Day – Wednesday 3 June 🌿

Today we honour Eddie Koiki Mabo, whose courage and determination changed the course of Australian history.

On this day in 1992, the High Court recognised that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a long and continuing connection to Country β€” a truth that has always been known.

As an Aboriginal Medical Service, we take this time to reflect on the significance of this decision and the ongoing journey toward recognition, respect, and fairness for our communities

β€œOur land is our life.” Today, we remember. We honour. We continue the journey.

🌾 National Reconciliation Week 2026 🌾

This week, we come together to honour the strength, culture, and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

At our Aboriginal Medical Service, Reconciliation Week is more than a date on the calendar β€” it’s a reminder of our shared responsibility to build relationships grounded in respect, truth, and healing.

This year’s theme, β€œAll In,” a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands we live and work on, and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. Their knowledge, leadership, and connection to Country continue to guide our work every day.

🀝 Reconciliation is everyone’s business. πŸ’› Healing happens when we walk together.
