Have you ever walked away from an interaction feeling completely different to how you felt before?
Maybe you felt clear, certain, grounded, centred.
And then after spending time with someone who was hurting, grieving, worried, or feeling uncertain, you found yourself feeling foggy too.
Questioning the things that you’d previously had such clarity on.
Doubting decisions you had felt were a yes in your body.
Feeling suddenly disconnected from your centre and yourself.
As empaths and deeply feeling souls, our capacity to understand and connect with the experiences and feelings of others is one of our greatest gifts.
But sometimes there is a subtle difference between compassion and carrying.
Between understanding and absorbing.
Between intuition and emotional merging.
Sometimes we become so immersed in another person’s experience that we begin seeing our own lives through the lens of their fear, sadness, grief, or uncertainty.
And in those moments, it can feel as though we’ve lost touch with our own truth.
But what if your clarity hasn’t disappeared?
What if it’s simply been clouded by everything you’ve taken in?
One of the gentlest questions we can ask ourselves when we suddenly feel confused or disconnected is:
“What was true for me before this interaction?”
Not from the mind.
Not from the story.
But from that deeper inner knowing.
Perhaps nothing is wrong. Perhaps your system is simply asking you to come home to yourself.
To move.
To breathe.
To ground.
To reconnect with your body.
And to gently remember what is yours.
Because empathy is a beautiful gift.
Just remember that you don’t need to carry what you were only ever meant to witness with love 💓
