My live-stream online and Russell Island Yoga classes include various themes for your back, hips, and shoulders to improve your balance and strength. I have a background in Hatha yoga training, Iyengar yoga, and Ashtanga. Focusing on correct alignmen

t, breath work, and meditations in all yoga classes. My Russell Island and live online Pilates classes focus on slow and safe movements, and effective strengthening of the core area, plus lots of gentle stretches. We use resistance bands and small Pilates balls in these Pilates classes. I'm also an independent support worker

When we face challenges or difficult times it helps to practice kindness, acceptance and understanding towards ourselves.

Let go of judgements and start to listen deeply to what the body and mind needs.

Repeat these self-compassion phrases to help you open your heart and support yourself more.

💚 May I be kind to myself
🩷 May I accept myself as I am
💜 May I be brave and face my fear
💙 May I give myself compassion I need

Repeat often and at any time of the day. You can place hands over the heart.

🌟Benefits of Bird Dog exercise🌟

Why you should add the Bird Dog exercise to your workouts .

🌟This exercise strengthens your core, back, hips and shoulders all in one movement.

🌟Improves posture, balance and coordination.

It’s often used in rehabilitation to stabilise the spine and reduce some lower back pains.

How to:
Start on hands and knees.
Extend one leg and opposite arm out and hold for few seconds. Repeat on other side.
Hold longer once you get stronger (10-20seconds).
Perform this 2-3 times a week, 10-20 each side in your exercise routine.
Engage core and breathe slowly.
Keep eyes down and chin slightly in.

Modifications:
Place padding under knee for support.
Optional to keep lifted arm bent at side if shoulder is tight/sensitive.

Variations:
-Flow in and out slowly with leg & arm (elbow to knee).
-Pulse at top range for 10 counts or more.
-Sideway movements.
-Eyes closed when holding.

Why it’s important to strengthen your back when over 50?

-Improve posture and stability
-Prevents falls and injury
-Reduce age-related stiffness
-Relieves some back pains
-Improve your daily tasks (like gardening, carrying shopping, bending, walking)
-Boosts energy and focus

🌟Video 1: Cobra (lower back)
Perfect for beginners.
Inhale lift your chest off the ground and exhale release to floor. Once you get stronger you can hold 5+deep slow breaths.
Keep shoulders away from ears. Small lifts if back is weak and tight.

🌟Video 2: Locust (full back)
Great yoga backbend to strengthen whole back body.
Inhale lift the chest, arms, legs off the ground and exhale float down or hold longer if you are stronger.
Practise these 2-3 times a week.

Let go of your old leaves (your resistance and hardness) to prepare for new growth, just like a tree.

How often do we say we want change, we want peace, or better life?
When we hold onto same thinking, patterns, reactions or attachments, nothing will change!

Let go of what is draining your peace.
Let go of the habits make you feel stuck.
Let go of any harmful cravings.
Let go of negative self-talk.

When we release the old, we create space for
the new, and the healing and growth begins.
Our clarity of mind returns and our true self awakens.

Are you Over 50? You need to Strengthen & Stretch your hips more!

Weak and tight hips is a common issue for over 50, which can affect your walking, cause knee and lower back issues, and increase risk of falls!

This Pilates exercise is perfect way to strengthen the important hip muscles such as the glute medius (side hip muscle) and hip flexors (front hip), plus work your other core muscles!

In this video my Pilates members are demonstrating wide leg raises with resistance band.

Tips:
1. Keep head/shoulders on ground if you have neck/shoulder issues.
2. Pilates beginners can perform this exercise without the resistance band.
3. Beginners can start with half movements.
4. Avoid arching lower back on ground.
5. Move slowly & smoothly & engage core.
6. Don’t forget to do your slow diaphragm Breathing!
7. Use a pillow under head if neck-shoulders are tight.

It’s time to slow down

🍁 Autumn Yoga 🍁

🍁Time to let go of our old layers, like trees let go of their leaves in Autumn.
🍁Time to slow down and be gentle.
🍁Time to nourish your mind & body.

My Top 3 yoga poses for Autumn are:

1. Puppy with twist: Pillow under head. Top arm either bent, straight or placed behind back.
2. Supported Fish pose: Pillow under head when your neck/shoulders/upper back is tight. Choose either bent legs, straight or butterfly.
3. Legs-up-the-wall: Optional bolster under hips. Legs can be close or wide.

Hold each pose for 2-3 minutes.

Our mind & body can feel unbalanced during Autumn season. Good time to let go of what is no longer nourishing you and boost your immune system.
