What an awesome weekend at Oz Comic Con! 💥

From making new friends to admiring the amazing costumes and exploring all the fantastic stalls, it was a weekend full of fun and a reminder of why we love this community so much 🫶 Building friendships, confidence, and a sense of belonging through shared interests is what it’s all about!

Now the real question, who else is already counting down the days until AVCon and Supanova? 👀

The 2026 theme, All In, reminds us that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility. It’s about building respectful relationships and valuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, histories, and futures ✨

At Enabling Independence, we are committed to fostering inclusion, respect and connection every day!

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognise the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and to Elders past and present 🧡

Our Connections group has been out and about enjoying visits to local community centres, libraries, and the Disability Expo, while our 1:1 supports and capacity building programs have been busy with:

🤝 SACID and Speak Out Advocacy are working together on a project called Respect (Our) Ability.
🤔 What is the project about:
•Helping people with intellectual disabilities take part in decision-making and leadership.
•Increasing inclusive governance practices and governance opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.
•Making sure others see value in people with disabilities as leaders in our communities.
🙋We are inviting you to take part in free opportunities that re-think governance and support people with intellectual disabilities to take a seat at the table!
