High Tea, Courage & Remembering Bella 🫶🏼🌈
Sometimes reaching a goal can look as simple as enjoying a beautiful high tea — but behind that moment can be an incredible amount of courage. 💛
One of Kylie’s goals was to visit Beerenberg Farm Shop and indulge in a decadent high tea experience. Getting out into the community is incredibly important for Kylie, who can experience significant isolation due to Stiff Person Syndrome. At any moment, she can experience painful and unpredictable spasms anywhere in her body, making something many of us take for granted — simply leaving the house — a much bigger challenge.
Kylie has also recently endured devastating heartbreak, saying goodbye to her beautiful fur baby, Bella, who crossed over to rainbow heaven. 🌈🐾
Bella was very much an honorary member of the Different Abilities SA family. She always made sure she collected her fair share of the cheese tax when our team cooked at Kylie’s and never forgot to greet staff with a friendly bark when they arrived. She was loved, and she will certainly be missed. ❤️
Despite her grief, physical challenges and the very real social anxiety that can come with accessing the community, Kylie found the courage to get out of the house and achieve her goal.
Not all barriers are visible.
This is why support and mentoring can mean so much more than simply “going out for the day.” It’s about creating safety, building confidence, reducing isolation and supporting someone to experience the things that bring them joy.
Kylie, thank you for trusting us to be beside you. Your courage and determination continue to inspire us. 🫶🏼
And that hot tea? ☕️🍰
Very well deserved — and such a beautiful experience to share.
