Networking within the disability sector is so much more than just building business relationships — it’s about building stronger outcomes for Participants. 🫶🏼

When providers, support workers, therapists, families, coordinators, and community services come together to share knowledge, ideas, and experiences, everybody benefits. Information sharing creates better understanding, stronger supports, safer practices, and more opportunities for Participants to thrive.

Collaboration allows us to learn from one another, discover new resources, improve communication, and ensure Participants remain at the centre of every decision made. No one provider can do everything alone — but together, we can create more inclusive, connected, and empowering support systems for the people who matter most.

The disability sector grows stronger when we support one another, share knowledge freely, and work together with the same goal:
Helping Participants live fuller, safer, happier, and more independent lives. 💛

Andrew, who is profoundly deaf/hard of hearing, communicates through lip reading and the use of his communication device. In this video, you’ll see not only Andrew being actively included in a fun group activity, but also his Mum being included to ensure she feels seen, heard, connected, and involved in Andrew’s life while he lives independently in his NDIS SIL home with support staff.

Something as simple as a game of UNO can create connection, laughter, belonging, and meaningful memories for everyone involved 💛

An incredible job by Alex and Aynsleigh for creating such a warm, inclusive, and heartwarming environment where communication, participation, and family connection always matter.

Eye gaze technology is more than just a device — it is a voice, a choice, and a pathway to independence 🫶🏼

For many Participants, eye gaze allows them to communicate their wants, needs, feelings, and personality using only their eyes. It creates opportunities to connect with others, make choices, learn new skills, and feel heard and understood.

Something as simple as being able to say “yes,” “no,” “I’m happy,” or “I need help” can completely change a person’s quality of life.

Training is more than just ticking boxes — it’s about building confidence, understanding, and safety for everyone involved 🫶🏼

At Different Abilities SA, we believe ongoing learning is essential. The best support workers are those who are willing to feel vulnerable, ask questions, learn new skills, and truly understand the equipment, techniques, and supports they are using with Participants every single day.

But training doesn’t stop with staff. Teaching families and loved ones how to safely support Participants is just as important. Knowledge creates confidence, reduces fear, and helps everyone feel safe and empowered while carrying out everyday tasks together.

When we learn together, we support better together 💛

Don’t feel like cooking at home? Or maybe the kitchen just isn’t the vibe today? 🍳🌳

At Different Abilities SA, we love turning everyday life skills into fun experiences! Utilizing all our Different Abilities cooking equipment, we can take cooking on the go — heading to parks, outdoor spaces, and community areas to cook together, enjoy fresh air, and make memories along the way.

Cooking is such an important everyday life skill. It helps build independence, confidence, budgeting skills, healthy eating habits, communication, planning, and social connection. But learning these skills doesn’t have to feel boring or repetitive.

Sometimes the best meals are made outdoors with laughter, music, good company, and support workers right alongside participants making it enjoyable and empowering. 💛

Life skills should feel exciting, inclusive, and meaningful — and that’s exactly what we aim to create every single day.
