🐾 Congratulations to All Our EKKA Stars! 🏆

What a week at the EKKA! 🎡🐕 We’d like to wish a huge congratulations to all of our wonderful canine patients who stepped into the show ring over the past week. We hope you’re incredibly proud of your dogs and everything they achieved and can’t wait to hear all the results in the coming days. ❤️

A special shout-out has to go to handsome Floyd the Dalmatian, who came away with many wins including Best Neuter of Breed! 🏆

Floyd popped in for his chiropractic check-up just days before heading into the ring, with a focus on keeping him moving and functioning at his best. His owner was thrilled to hear the judge say how well he was moving throughout the show — music to our ears! 🥰

For our show dogs, regular chiropractic care is all about supporting mobility, comfortable movement and allowing them to perform at their best when it matters.
Congratulations Floyd, and congratulations to all of our amazing patients and their humans who competed at this year’s EKKA! We love seeing you out there doing what you love. 💙🐾

Dogs don't have collarbones like we do!

Instead, their front limbs are suspended by a powerful network of muscles, tendons and connective tissues. This unique design acts like a natural shock absorber, helping them run, jump and change direction with incredible agility.

Because so much of a dog's weight is supported through these muscles, healthy shoulder function and good mobility play an important role in comfortable, efficient movement.

Healthy movement… Happy dogs!

Have you ever noticed just how much your dog relies on their front end during play or exercise? 🐶

💛🐾Two gorgeous Labradors, twice the wagging tails! 🐾💛

Indi and Jade visit for regular maintenance chiropractic care to help keep them moving and functioning as well as they can. Just like people, dogs can develop stiffness and reduced mobility as they age or simply through their everyday activities.

Regular chiropractic check-ups aim to keep the spine and joints moving well, support comfortable movement, and help them continue enjoying the things they love

Prevention and maintenance are just as important for our four-legged family members as they are for us.

🐶 Healthy movement is happy movement.

🏆 Every Winning Performance Starts with Healthy Movement🏆

Congratulations Karen and her beautiful Giant Schnauzers Siegfried & Sascha!

Keeping your show dog looking and performing at their very best isn't just about grooming and training—it's also about how they move.

Regular chiropractic assessments can help support comfortable and correct movement by identifying areas of reduced mobility that may influence posture, flexibility and overall function. Even subtle movement restrictions can affect stride, topline and comfort in the ring.

Whether your dog is a seasoned champion or just beginning their show career, supporting healthy movement can help them perform with confidence.

✨ Healthy movement. Better function. Happy dogs.

🐾 Could Your Dog Be Hiding Discomfort? 🐾

Dogs are masters at hiding discomfort, so it’s often the little changes that tell us the most.

Keep an eye out for:
🐶 Reluctance to jump
🐶 Hesitating on stairs
🐶 Sitting to one side
🐶 Turning the whole body instead of just the neck
🐶 Changes in mood or activity

These subtle signs may indicate reduced mobility or stiffness.

As animal chiropractors, we love helping dogs move comfortably so they can continue enjoying life to the fullest.

Thank you to the beautiful Daisy for being our happy model!

Have you noticed any of these signs in your dog?

Meet beautiful Snugs. ❤️🐾

Snugs (and her lovely owner!) have been long-time patients here at Samford Chiropractic/Samford Animal Chiro, and it's always a pleasure to see them both.

Although she only has three legs, Snugs doesn't let anything slow her down. But being a tripod means her body works much harder, placing extra strain on her spine, pelvis and remaining limbs.

Regular animal chiropractic care helps keep her body moving as well as possible, supporting her mobility and comfort as she gets older.

Three legs. One incredible dog. 🐕❤️

🏅🐾Little superstar alert! 🐾🏅

Gorgeous little Luna, owned by Chloe, came in for a chiropractic check-up before her jumping competition at the Samford Show to make sure her spine and joints were moving as well as possible. She then returned after the event for another assessment to ensure everything was still functioning optimally after all that hard work.

Just like human athletes, canine athletes place significant demands on their bodies. Regular chiropractic care can help maintain healthy spinal biomechanics, support mobility, and keep them feeling and performing at their best.

She did an amazing job, and it was a pleasure helping keep her competition-ready! 🐶🏅

💚 A strong core isn't just for athletic dogs – it's important for every dog! 💚

One of the best ways to help reduce the risk of injury is by building and maintaining good core strength. A strong core improves balance, coordination, posture and spinal stability, allowing your dog to move more efficiently and confidently.

In this photo, Reggie is practising one of many core exercises - This is quite an advanced balance exercise using inflatable balance discs. These exercises encourage the small stabilising muscles around the spine and joints to work, helping support healthy biomechanics and reducing unnecessary strain on the body.

Whether your dog is a sporting superstar, a senior companion, or simply enjoys daily walks, keeping their core strong can make a real difference to their mobility and long-term comfort.

Ask your animal chiropractor where to start if you’d like to strengthen your pups core at home 🐾

🌭 Long dog? Long spine. Extra care. ❤️

Dachshunds, Corgis, Basset Hounds and other long-bodied breeds have a unique body shape that places different demands on their spine.

While most live long, active lives, some breeds—particularly Dachshunds—are predisposed to spinal conditions such as Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD).

You can help support your dog's long-term mobility by:
🐾 Keeping them at a healthy weight
🐾 Encouraging regular, appropriate exercise
🐾 Using ramps where practical to reduce repetitive jumping
🐾 Watching for changes in movement, posture or willingness to play
🐾 Check in with your animal chiropractor!

Every dog is different, but understanding your breed's unique biomechanics is one of the best ways to help keep them happy, active and comfortable.
