A little reminder about supporting local 💛

After 10 years in practice, one thing I know for certain is that small local businesses like mine are built on word of mouth.

When someone tells a friend, “I know someone who might be able to help,” shares one of our posts, mentions us in a local group, or takes a couple of minutes to leave a positive Google review — it genuinely makes a difference.

Unlike big healthcare companies, little practices like Naturology Studio don't have enormous advertising budgets behind them. We rely on people in our community knowing we're here, trusting us, and passing our name on.

So if you've visited a small local practitioner or business and had a good experience, one of the loveliest (and completely free!) things you can do is leave them a Google review or recommend them to someone who might need them.

It might feel like a tiny thing to you.

To a small business owner standing proudly beside her brand-new A-frame sign… it means an awful lot. ❤️

And to everyone who has recommended me, reviewed the clinic, shared a post or sent someone through my door over the past 10 years — thank you. You are a very real part of why I'm still here.

We've listened 💛

One of the things we've heard from our community over the years is that weekday appointments aren't always easy. Between work, family and life, looking after yourself can end up at the bottom of the list.

That's why we're pleased to now offer Saturday appointments by appointment with Sarah and Lou.

Yesterday morning, I opened the clinic just after sunrise and was reminded why I love these mornings so much. The quiet. The golden light. The sense that, before the world gets busy, there's space to simply pause and take a breath.

Whether you're seeking support for stress, emotional wellbeing, gut health or simply wanting to understand your body a little better, we'd love to welcome you.

✨ Saturday appointments are now available by appointment.

Book online or get in touch, we'd love to help.

Sometimes the hardest part of working through an emotion is finding the words for what we’re actually feeling 🌸

This is one of the reasons I particularly love working with Desert Alchemy Flower Essences in clinic.

While I also use Bach and Australian Bush Flower Essences, the Desert Alchemy range offers an incredibly nuanced emotional language, exploring themes such as feeling burdened, stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, conflicted or unable to move forward.

For me, choosing a flower essence isn’t just about the remedy itself.

The language around the essences can open up a conversation about the psychological and emotional influences sitting underneath what someone is experiencing — sometimes bringing awareness to a pattern they hadn’t previously been able to name.

And once we can identify and understand a pattern, we can begin exploring how to move through it.

Sometimes finding the right words is where the shift begins 🌿

What if you genuinely don’t know what you’re feeling?

Not everyone experiences emotion as a clear thought or an easily named feeling

Sometimes it first appears in the body as tension, irritability, overwhelm, brain fog, digestive changes, poor sleep or a persistent sense of being on edge

This kind of body-to-emotion exploration may be particularly relevant for some autistic people and those with autistic traits

Alexithymia is the term used for difficulty identifying and describing feelings or distinguishing emotions from physical sensations. A systematic review found alexithymia in approximately 50% of autistic participants, compared with about 5% of non-autistic participants

It is important to remember that this is common, not universal. Autistic people experience and process emotions in many different ways

Research also suggests that some of the difficulties attributed to autism may relate more specifically to co-occurring alexithymia. This helps explain why gently noticing bodily sensations and connecting them with possible emotional words can be a meaningful place to begin

There may also be an emotional pattern underneath. People-pleasing can develop as protection from rejection, while perfectionism may be an attempt to feel safe or avoid failure. And physical factors matter too.

At the Naturology Studio, we listen to what your body may be communicating while staying curious about the whole picture

You don’t need to have the answers or find the perfect words before you begin. We can gently start with what you notice and work from there, at your pace

If this sounds familiar, save this post or share it with someone who may need it

“So many people come in after being told:

💭 ‘It’s just IBS.’
💭 ‘It’s probably anxiety.’
💭 ‘We tested for parasites and nothing was found.’

But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing happening beneath the surface.

It also doesn’t mean we should aggressively treat for parasites when there’s no evidence they’re there.

With access to comprehensive gut microbiome analysis in Australia and the USA, we can investigate what is actually happening within the gut—rather than guessing.

Testing may help us identify microbial imbalances and other patterns that could be contributing to bloating, digestive discomfort, changes in mood and overall health. It can also provide evidence-informed guidance around naturopathic and dietary treatment options, including which interventions particular microbes may be sensitive to.

Sometimes the first step isn’t attacking or eliminating anything.

Often, it’s rebuilding the terrain—supporting digestion, the gut lining, beneficial microbes and the overall environment of the gut—before deciding what needs to happen next.

More information. More personalised care. Less guesswork.

Not every gut problem starts with food.

As a naturopath, many people come to see me believing they simply need the "right diet" or another supplement.

Sometimes that's part of the picture.

But just as often, I find we need to look a little deeper.

✨ Is stress affecting digestion?
✨ Have antibiotics impacted your microbiome?
✨ What are your zonulin levels like (leaky gut marker)?
✨ Are your digestive enzymes adequate to absorb nutrients?
✨ Has your body become increasingly sensitive over time?
✨ Is your gut inflamed and irritated?

Your gut isn't working against you, it may simply be trying to communicate that something needs attention.

Swipe through these 8 signs that your digestive system may be asking for a closer look.

I'd love to know…

Which one surprised you most?

Or if you've experienced gut issues yourself, which sign resonates with you?

Understanding your health. Together.

Ten years later, people still ask me why I do what I do.

The answer has never really changed.

I genuinely love helping people. But even more than that, I feel incredibly privileged to witness what happens over time. Seeing someone arrive feeling overwhelmed, exhausted or unwell, then watching them gradually reconnect with themselves, build confidence, improve their health and move forward... that's something I'll never take for granted.

Over the past decade I've realised there isn't one "right" way to work together. Some people come with one specific concern. Some are seeking a bigger transformation. Some check in with the changing seasons, while others choose regular appointments to stay on track.

I often say I'd love to see people monthly because I know how much can be achieved when we keep building on the work together. But I also know that's not realistic for everyone.

Whether you've visited once, come through a difficult chapter, return seasonally, or have trusted me with your health over many years, every one of you has been an important part of this 10-year journey.

Thank you for letting me be part of yours.
