Meet HARLEY:
8yo Kelpie F/S Full Cranial Cruciate Rupture with Advanced Chronic Osteoarthritis in Left Hind Leg.
After a recent CT to confirm why Harley was experiencing intermittent lameness; Harley was scheduled for CCL surgery with the ever brilliant orthopedic surgeon Dr David Lidbetter at Animal Orthopedic Specialists at Nth Parramatta.
Harley arrived the night before her surgery for a pre-surgery HBOT to flood her body with oxygen and prep for her surgery the following day.
HBOT acts as a form of "surgical pre-conditioning", by saturating the blood and tissues with 100% oxygen under high pressure, it creates an oxygen buffer before the body experiences the controlled trauma of surgery. It reduces swelling, reduces the risk of infection, especially when the bone is remodelled, preserves vulnerable tissue and pre-empts healing signalling.
Harley was then brought back the day after surgery to assist with post op recovery.
HBOT aids post-surgical recovery by flooding damaged tissues with 100% oxygen under pressure. This process accelerates healing, reduces inflammation and swelling, fights off infections, and stimulates the growth of new blood vessels for rapid healing minimising scarring and stimulates new bone growth.
As instructed by the surgeon, Harley's Mumma Yvette was guided to have bandaging removed at Day 3 post op and the wound looks absolutely sensational with minimal bruising.
As you can see in the video attached, Harley is using her leg well and taking gentle weight on Day 4 Post surgery. ๐ซถ She will continue HBOT twice a week during the healing recovery phase.
HBOT rapidly reduces surgical bruising by saturating the blood plasma with pure oxygen under pressure. This floods damaged tissues with oxygen, accelerates the breakdown and reabsorption of trapped blood cells, and boosts the bodyโs natural mechanisms to resolve discoloration.
The process achieves this through three primary functions:
Vasoconstriction & Edema Reduction
Lymphatic Drainage
Cellular Regeneration
We try our best to have patients begin HBOT sessions within 24 to 48 hours of their procedure to minimize downtime and accelerate healing.
This little girl is a "fireball" of energy and we can't wait to help her back to full recovery and healing of her surgery to get full speed back to life.
