Small steps every day give you the opportunity to move towards where you want to be tomorrow. You don't wake up suddenly unable to exercise, weighing 100kg+ & diabetic. You don't catch or inherit these things - for the most part. Well maybe the habits are inherited! But the choices that you make, whether to meal prep, shop, walk, move your body, eat takeaway, go to bed late, overspend etc - they add up over the days, weeks, years & decades. These small daily actions matter. That's the bad news & the good news. No-matter where you find yourself, new habits, new lifestyles, new diets can all be created literally one day at a time. Pick one area you are bad at, and begin to improve. Is it meal planning, is it movement, is it bedtimes, is it drinking too much?? Pick one & address that. Make it a manageable step that you can do on your hardest days. Feel how it feels to be a person who follows through & does what they say they will do. And build on that.
It is not bad luck, bad genes, bad finances. It is bad habits - on rinse and repeat for decades that causes most of our issues...
Start now & move towards the life you desire.

When most people think of histamine they think of allergies.
When I think of histamine I think- unexplained fatigue, anxiety, headaches, nausea, reflux, IBS, period pain that is extreme, fainting, POTS, fibromyalgia and long covid to name a few. The issue is most often a gut issue (hence the reduced DAO enzyme) and once that is addressed the myriad of symptoms often begins to decrease. You do need to change the diet & often remove some healthy foods short term, but we always work towards getting them back in the diet to support gut health in the future. It is a tricky balance but one that with practical support you can usually get through relatively quickly....

I genuinely think we have lost our way.
Obviously my interest is in health, and what I am seeing in clinic are people who are less healthy than when I started practicing. We have all the tools & information at our fingertips but yet somehow a lack of ability to get our bodies back on track. The thing that makes me sad is that our society is not set up to make us healthier, no footpaths in places, public transport is non existent so we need to drive to everything, our foods are sprayed & poisoned so the bugs don't eat them (but what about our gut bugs- also dead!), parents working more than ever, women working outside the home yet expected to do everything else. Insecure & unaffordable housing.... These day to day, week to week issues are real. Add this to a practically non existent health prevention budget - (apart from reminding everyone to get further boosters) then is it any wonder everyone is getting more unhealthy. I can bang on with all the health advice but in reality it is not a priority if you are about to become homeless.
If we measured prosperity by the absence of poverty & prevalence of health Australia would be going backwards at a catastrophic rate. There are lots of political opinions being offered at the moment, but I am not seeing anything that even mentions the health of the population. Maybe if our local, state & federal polititions were as keen to see us healthy as they are their bank balances we would be in a whole different situation???

This simple triangle should make up the base of most of our diets. I think there is so much info out there and yet so much confusion. If the majority of your diet is coming from veggies & meat then whatever else we add becomes less important.
Yes I include eggs, fruit, dairy and whole grains in MY diet, but not in everyone's...
Veggies and protein make up the backbone of pretty much all my recommendations...
Keeping it simple & keeping it consistent is key. Not Perfect.

Reducing the busy-ness in our everyday lives is one of the kindest things we can do for our nervous system. Getting to bed late & jumping out of bed late starts the day on red alert. Grabbing a large coffee & a breakfast on the go while stressing you are going to get to work late sets your adrenals on fire.

As someone who always thinks I have more time than I do- making me constantly running late! Believe me.

Taking 5 to breathe, hydrate, plan, prep & prepare makes a massive difference to how your stress levels go over your day. Exercise, protein & enough time in the morning set the tone and are very underrated forms of self care - you will thank yourself, I promise...

Love this. I think we can confuse money with freedom. Having the ability to do the things that make me happy is what I strive for, not more stuff. Having the luxury of time with the kids or friends, cooking & meal prep, exercising how & when I want, and travelling are luxuries I truly appreciate. Bigger and better things - not so much. What is a rich life to you?
