Your X-ray does not tell the whole story.
This is one of the most important things I tell people — and one of the hardest to believe after a lifetime of being told otherwise.
Here’s what the research consistently shows:
There is almost no reliable correlation between what shows up on an image and how much pain someone experiences. Studies find severe arthritic changes in people with zero pain — and people in significant pain with minimal structural findings.
What a scan shows is structure. A snapshot. It tells you nothing about how you move, how strong you are, how your nervous system is processing sensation, or how much capacity your body has to adapt.
Pain is an output of the brain — not a direct readout of tissue damage. It’s influenced by sleep, stress, beliefs, past experiences, and yes, movement history.
This doesn’t mean your pain isn’t real. It absolutely is.
It means the image is not your destiny.
I’ve worked with people in their 60s, 70s and 80s who were handed a scan and told to manage and accept it — and went on to move better than they had in years.
Your body is more adaptable than you’ve been told.

Here’s a little bit about my approach to neck pain, and why I focus on the whole body, not just where it hurts. The osteopathic approach involves looking at the nervous system, biomechanics and circulatory system to try and help the body to get back on track 💪

What if your tight muscles are just rib pain in disguise? The thoracic spine and ribs are designed to move with every breath. When that motion is lost, pain follows. I use a gentle osteopathic approach to restore rib and mid-back mechanics without aggressive adjustments. I love nothing more than seeing a client get quick relief after a rib focused session.

A lot of people come to me with neck pain that keeps coming back—no matter how many adjustments, stretches, or massages they’ve tried.

My osteopathic approach is a little different. I’m not just looking at the neck itself. I’m looking at how your ribs move when you breathe, how your upper back shares load, how your jaw and nervous system are involved, and how stress is showing up in your body.

Neck pain is rarely just a ‘tight muscle.’ It’s usually a pattern.
