Did you know❓
Children’s speech sounds develop gradually throughout childhood, starting with vowel type sounds then moving up to more complex sounds.

Whilst all children can develop speech sounds at a slightly different rate; we use speech sound “norms” (information gathered about many children) to help us know when we might expect a child to produce certain speech sounds.

Introducing our Head Start Clinic!

We are now offering FREE 15-minute screening appointments for families with newborns, and we want to make sure every family knows about it.

If you have noticed your baby tends to look toward one side, or you have questions about the shape of their head, our Head Start Clinic is a good place to begin.

Who: Babies under 8 weeks old
Where: In Person at Western Kids Health, Shenton Park
When: Friday mornings (limited dates and times available)
How to book: Comment ‘HEAD START’ below and we’ll send you the booking link!

Please note: This is a free 15-minute screening appointment available in our Shenton Park clinic only. Your physiotherapist will observe your baby’s head shape and check their neck movement. You will leave with information on what was found and what to do next. This is not a treatment session.

Happy Pride Month from all of us at Western Kids Health!

This month, we proudly celebrate the strength, diversity, and resilience of our LGBTQIA+ children, adolescents, families, and community.

At WKH, we are committed to providing safe, inclusive, and affirming care for all young people, including through our dedicated Gender Diversity Clinic, which supports trans and gender-diverse children, adolescents, and their families.

Pride Month (but every month really) is a time to honour identity, advocate for equity, and remind every young person that they are seen, valued, and never alone.

As always, we will continue to proudly stand with the LGBTQIA+ community.

Google is great for recipes, but it’s less helpful at 2am when you’re wondering if your baby’s flat head, late babbling or constant gagging means something. 🤔💭

So we asked our team the baby questions on movement, feeding and communication we hear most often, and gathered the answers in one place. Swipe through for what’s expected, what’s worth keeping an eye on, and when it’s worth a chat with someone who knows babies.

You know your baby best. If something feels off, trust that. Our team is here, whenever you’d like a second set of eyes.

Has your little one just had their Kindy Screen? Here’s what to do next. 💚
Kindy screens are a great first step in understanding where your child is at before starting school.
But what happens when something is flagged, or you just have a niggling feeling something’s not quite right? That’s where we come in!

At Western Kids Health, our sessions are fun, engaging and goal driven. We use play based activities to build the skills your child needs- whether that’s fine motor skills, self-care, sensory regulation, or focus.
After every session, we debrief with parents/caregivers and send you away with practical strategies to use at home, so progress continues well beyond the clinic.

Some children know exactly what they want to say, but getting the words out is where things get hard.

May is Childhood Apraxia of Speech Awareness Month.

CAS is a neurological speech disorder that affects the way the brain plans the mouth movements needed for speech, and it can look different from other speech sound disorders in ways that matter for treatment.

Swipe to learn what CAS is, what early signs to look for, and why getting the right support early makes a difference.

This week for PFD and ARFID Awareness month, we are celebrating all the things that make us smile and cheer in the feeding team.

Parenting a very restricted eater can feel lonely, and sometimes it can seem like everyone around you has children that are eating a full lunchbox, while you are going to bed wondering if your child ate enough, or if they even touched a fruit this week.

Not only do our feeding team help you with your concerns and make a plan together to help the midnight wonderings, we are also here to celebrate all of the small changes in your child’s eating, because we know these are actually BIG things. And most definitely worth celebrating. 💙

Here are some examples of the moments our feeding team lives for! 🙌
