Inspired by the yoga concept of Aparigraha. The 5th Yama. Non-grasping. Non-attachment. Letting Go.
We hold and we do cling to,
Many things with all our might,
People, places and old patterns,
That indeed do keep us bound.
A coffee shop we go to,
An order of our day,
The walk first then the coffee,
Our ways become our ways.
And then is the old people,
In our lives that don’t serve now,
We grasp and we do cling to,
What keeps us trapped in our old past.
The possessive ways of being,
Of lovers, friends and those held dear,
Does not in fact allow us,
To find more freedom here.
So what is the alternative,
How can we be instead,
Less gripping and less grasping,
More open of what is.
Letting go of all the hoarding,
Of people, patterns and of things,
And allowing the soft movement,
Of life to move through our inner being.
We are not here to hold on to,
We are not here to cling tight,
In fact our mission if we make it,
Is a true experience of all life.
To embrace a life of wholeness,
Is to learn to ride the tides,
Of what comes in and what leaves us,
And to know that we’ll be fine.
