Blisters are a raised part of the skin that is usually fluid filled. In general terms, blisters on the feet are usually caused by friction from footwear.

Pop it or not?

If a blister has not popped you should keep it that way, unless the pressure from the blister it too painful. This helps to aid the healing concept of moist wound healing and also helps to reduce the chance of infection due to keeping a barrier present to help stop bacteria entering the wound.

How can a podiatrist help ?

- Conducting a footwear fitting to ensure your shoes are the correct size, width and depth. They can also help to recommend materials that might suit your foot shape for example a neoprene upper for a bunion.

- Giving advice on reducing friction such as using a blister stick or tapping to protect high friction areas of the foot.

- Helping with treatment if the blister has been deroofed.

- Assessing if orthotics may be required to reduce the pressure and friction on the blister area and prevent reoccurrence.

Warts are skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Different types of HPV cause warts on various body parts, often spreading through direct or indirect contact, a weakened immune system, or damaged skin. The virus is tricky, camouflaging itself effectively, making it challenging for the immune system to recognize.

Warts often occur on feet or between toes, are sometimes painless but can cause mild discomfort, impacting daily life and confidence. Confusingly similar to corns, a quick test helps differentiate:
pinch – if it hurts, it's likely a wart
apply pressure – if it hurts, it's probably a corn.

If you or someone you know needs some help with their warts, book a consultation with us and let us help!

❄️🌧CHILBLAIN PREVENTION AND TREATMENT ❄️⛄️
Do you suffer from chilblains in the colder weather? Akilwinter Chilblains Cream may be the solution you need. This skincare product is formulated to alleviate the discomfort and soothe the symptoms of chilblains, which can cause painful, itchy, red, or purple patches on your extremities. Chilblains are caused by an abnormal reaction of blood vessels to cold climates. Akilwinter Chilblain Cream contains protective moisturising ingredients that nourish and hydrate the skin, creating a barrier against cold and humidity. It also helps to soothe the itching and discomfort associated with chilblains and promotes the healing of affected skin.

Other things to consider if you are suffering from chilblains:
Try to avoid exposure of the skin to sudden changes in temperature and maintain the temperature of your feet by using socks and enclosed footwear.
Try to avoid the use of hot water bottles or heat packs directly on the skin of your feet when they are cold - warm your feet up slowly.

🥶 ❄️ Pop into our clinic at 38 Vaughan St Shepparton to purchase some chilblain cream today.
