πŸ’™ First Responders Day πŸ’™

Today, we acknowledge and thank the incredible first responders who dedicate themselves to protecting and supporting our communities.

Whether it's firefighters, paramedics, police officers, SES volunteers, Forest Fire Management, emergency dispatchers, nurses, doctors, or countless other emergency personnel, these individuals step forward when others need help most.

They work long hours, face challenging situations, and make personal sacrifices to keep our communities safe. Their courage, compassion, professionalism, and commitment do not go unnoticed.

To all first respondersβ€”past and presentβ€”thank you for your service, your resilience, and the difference you make every single day.

Please take a moment today to thank a first responder in your community. πŸ’™πŸš’πŸš‘πŸš“

⚠️ SHINGLES CASES ON THE RISE ⚠️

We are seeing increasing numbers of shingles cases across Victoria, including within our local Shepparton community.

Shingles is caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus and can result in a painful blistering rash, nerve pain, and, in some cases, long-term complications that can persist for months or even years.

The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones is through vaccination.

βœ… The National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides free Shingrix vaccination for:
β€’ Adults aged 65 years and over
β€’ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and over
β€’ Eligible immunocompromised individuals aged 18 years and over

Even if you've had shingles before, vaccination may still be recommended to help reduce the risk of future episodes.

Common symptoms of shingles include:
β€’ Pain, burning, or tingling on one side of the body
β€’ A blistering rash
β€’ Itching
β€’ Sensitivity to touch
β€’ Ongoing nerve pain after the rash resolves

If you think you may be eligible for a shingles vaccine, speak with your doctor or nurse.

πŸ’‰ RSV Vaccine Now FREE for Eligible Patients!

Great news β€” from 15 May 2026, the RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) vaccine – Arexvy will be fully funded under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for eligible patients.

The Australian Government is rolling this out to help reduce severe illness, hospitalisations, and deaths in high-risk groups.

🦠 Why is this important?
RSV is a common virus that can lead to serious chest infections, including pneumonia, particularly in older adults and infants.

πŸ’² Previously…
Before NIP funding, the RSV vaccine required a private script and typically cost around $300–$350 out of pocket πŸ’Έ

βœ… Who is eligible for a FREE vaccine?
β€’ Adults aged 75 years and over
β€’ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples aged 60–74 years

πŸ’‘ What you need to know:
β€’ Only one dose is required
β€’ Helps protect against severe RSV infection

Many of you know Sam as the friendly face behind our nursing services here at Wellness Medical Clinic. Outside of the clinic, Sam is also a dedicated volunteer firefighter with Tatura CFA.

On September 12th, Sam will be taking on the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb, climbing 28 floors while wearing 25kg of firefighting gear to raise funds and awareness for mental health support, cancer research, and su***de prevention.

These causes touch the lives of so many Australians and their families. Through this challenge, Sam hopes to help raise vital funds while shining a light on the importance of supporting those facing cancer, depression, and mental health struggles.

We are incredibly proud of Sam for taking on this challenge and representing both our clinic and community.

If you are able to support her fundraising efforts, every donationβ€”big or smallβ€”will help make a difference!

πŸŽ€ It’s That Time Again! πŸŽ€

Wellness Medical Clinic is proud to once again support the National Breast Cancer Foundation for our annual Breast Cancer Fundraiser β€” and this year we are excited to officially be part of the Pink Hero Team! πŸ’•

Breast cancer continues to impact thousands of Australians every year, with many families and loved ones affected by diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing recovery. Through fundraising, awareness, and community support, we hope to help make a difference and contribute towards vital breast cancer research and support services.

Throughout our fundraiser, we will be encouraging our wonderful community to get involved, spread awareness, wear pink, donate if able, and help support a cause that means so much to so many. Every contribution, big or small, helps move closer towards a future with zero deaths from breast cancer. 🌸

We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from our patients, staff, families, and community each year. Together, we can continue to raise awareness, support those affected, and make a meaningful impact. πŸ’—

If you would like to support our fundraiser, donations can be made here:

⚠️ Measles Alert in Victoria ⚠️

Measles cases are continuing to rise across Victoria, with increased community exposure being reported across Melbourne and surrounding areas. Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads easily through coughing, sneezing, and close contact.

πŸ€’ Symptoms of measles may include:
β€’ Fever
β€’ Cough
β€’ Runny nose
β€’ Red or sore eyes
β€’ Feeling generally unwell
β€’ A red rash that usually starts on the face and spreads down the body

πŸ›‘οΈ How to stay protected:
βœ”οΈ Ensure your vaccinations are up to date
βœ”οΈ Two doses of the MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella) vaccine are recommended for full protection
βœ”οΈ Practise good hand hygiene
βœ”οΈ Avoid contact with others if feeling unwell
βœ”οΈ Call ahead before attending the clinic if you have symptoms or possible exposure

πŸ’‰ Who may be eligible for a FREE measles vaccine?
In Australia, people born during or after 1966 who have not received 2 documented doses of the MMR vaccine may be eligible for a free catch-up vaccination.

⚠️ Many older children and adults may not be fully protected against measles, particularly if they only received one dose or are unsure of their vaccination history. Measles can cause serious complications, especially in young children, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals.

Vaccination remains the best protection for yourself, your family, and the wider community πŸ’™

If you are unsure whether your vaccinations are up to date, please contact Wellness Medical Clinic to discuss your immunisation history. 🩺
