Magnesium & Winter: The Mineral Your Body Craves 💙
Winter is a time to slow down, rest, and restore. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, winter is linked to the Water Element, which supports our kidneys, adrenal health, nervous system, and deep energy reserves.
One of my favourite minerals to support the body during winter is magnesium. Known as the "relaxation mineral", magnesium plays a role in over 300 processes in the body and can support sleep, stress resilience, muscle function, energy production, and nervous system health.
Different forms of magnesium have different benefits:
💚 Glycinate – Calm, relaxation, sleep, and stress support
💚 Citrate – Digestive and bowel support
💚 Malate – Energy and muscle recovery
💚 Threonate – Brain health, focus, and memory
💚 Taurate – Heart and nervous system support
💚 Chloride – Often used in sprays, oils, and bath flakes for muscle relaxation
🛁 A warm bath with magnesium flakes or Epsom salts can be a beautiful winter ritual to help soothe tired muscles, calm the nervous system, and encourage relaxation.
As a naturopath and PKP Kinesiologist, I often see how supporting magnesium levels alongside good nutrition, stress management, and emotional wellbeing can help people feel calmer, more energised, and better able to cope with life's demands.
