JERSEY DAY 💙 WEAR IT. SHARE IT. SAVE A LIFE.

Today is Jersey Day, a special day dedicated to raising awareness about the life-changing gift of organ and tissue donation.

Jersey Day was inspired by 13-year-old Nathan Gremmo, who made the selfless decision to become an organ donor. Through his gift, six people were given the precious gift of life. 💙

Today, and every day, the Paper Cranes Children’s Foundation Team stands proudly behind the importance of becoming an organ and tissue donor.

One decision can make an extraordinary difference. One person can save lives. A legacy can continue long after someone is gone.

Today, Galia is proudly wearing her Bondi Beach Lifeguard jersey in honour of a very special girl, Madalyn.

Madalyn sadly lost her life to a life-debilitating condition. Yet, through her and her devoted parents decision to become an organ donor, she was able to give others something truly priceless. The gift of life.

Today, we wear our jerseys for Nathan. We wear them for Madalyn. And we wear them for every family whose lives have been changed by organ and tissue donation.

Happy National Wattle Day from all of us at Paper Cranes Children’s Foundation 💛

Wattle is a symbol of Australian resilience, unity and hope, while Wattle Cottage embodies those same qualities by being a place of support, belonging and hope for children with complex medical needs and their families.

It represents what we hope to build around children with complex needs and the families who love them:

Strength when things are hard.

Hope when the road feels uncertain.

And a community that stands beside them.

This National Wattle Day, we celebrate the beautiful golden flower and one of the bravest kids that behind the Wattle Cottage name. Thank you Joey for inspiring and guiding us towards the big mission 💛

For us, Wattle became a symbol of hope, strength, courage, resilience and an extraordinary capacity to keep going.

Hope that even in the most difficult seasons, something beautiful can grow.

Hope that families don't have to walk their journey alone.

Hope that a community can come together and make an incredibly challenging road just a little easier.

We are incredibly proud and excited to share that Pat has been selected as a Finalist for the 2026 Westfield Local Hero Award!

Now, we need YOUR VOTE to help Pat and the Paper Cranes Children’s Foundation take one small but very important step closer to opening Wattle Cottage and creating an even greater impact for children and families living with complex medical needs.

For us, Pat is already a true Paper Cranes Hero.

With more than 30 years of experience as a Social Worker, including leadership roles across government and the not-for-profit sector, Pat joined the Paper Cranes journey five years ago and helped plant the first seeds of what has become our Foundation.

From the very beginning, Pat has been there helping establish and register the Charity, build and lead the Board, develop policies, oversee quality and compliance, manage human resources and financial reporting, prepare grant applications, build community relationships and, most recently, help bring Wattle Cottage to life.

And he has done all of this as a volunteer, alongside the responsibilities of his main career.

Pat has shown up every time , every day, every week and every weekend. Always positive, hardworking, humble and deeply committed to our children and families.

We asked Pat why he co-founded Paper Cranes and why he continues to give so much of his time and energy to this cause.

His answer says everything:

“Inspired by families, the love, devotion and resilience of parents and families of medically complex children, showing despite enormous challenges. The opportunity to minimise gaps in the system and create more choices and options for children and families. And perhaps to create a legacy that inspires others to do more and create more.”

Every room at Wattle Cottage was named with purpose, each one telling its own story. The Grevillea is one of four guest rooms, inspired by togetherness, natural beauty, and the magic of joy.

In Indigenous culture, the Grevillea symbolises uniqueness, resilience, diversity and adaptation. Its vibrant flowers evoke optimism and joy- qualities that shaped the spirit of this room.

Bright, spacious and welcoming, the Grevillea Room features two height-adjustable electric beds, each with a different style, giving children the opportunity to choose the bed that feels right for them. Located beside our largest bathroom, the room has ample storage for personal belongings, clinical equipment and care essentials.

Most importantly, the room was designed with togetherness in mind. Siblings or even friends can share the space and enjoy a sleepover, while each child has the comfort they need.

Every piece of equipment in the room has been generously donated by families. The space was created alongside real families, with the individuality and uniqueness of every child at its heart.

Because when caring for children with complex medical needs, choice matters just as much as joy, dignity and comfort.

That understanding makes a stay at Wattle Cottage more than accommodation. It becomes a genuine retreat. A place where children can simply be children, families can reconnect, and everyone can feel supported.
