Fresh flavours, feel-good food.

What we eat can play an important role in how we feel, which is why our chefs and dietitians work together to create meals that support patient wellbeing and recovery.

Developed in partnership with renowned Australian chef Luke Mangan, our new spring menu features vibrant dishes made with ingredients such as wholegrains, legumes, fish, fruits and vegetables.

Available to private patients at South Brisbane and Springfield, every meal is designed to be both nourishing and flavourful.

Mater theatre nurse Richard Habana has spent his career caring for patients through their hardest days. Now he's taking on his toughest challenge yet, for them.

Richard has lost his grandfather to stomach cancer, his grandmother to breast and liver cancer, and his childhood best friend, who passed away from bone cancer at just 11 years old.

On Sunday 23 August, he'll take part in the Mater Foundation Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle for Cancer, a 100km ride from South Brisbane to the Broadwater Parklands.

But 100km is just the halfway mark for Richard.

He's turning around and riding all the way back to Brisbane which will be approximately 200km in a single day.

"It's going to be tough," he says, "but getting through cancer is tough."

Richard will be joined by more than 3000 riders, survivors, families, researchers and specialists, all pedalling for the same cause: funding life-saving cancer research and care at Mater.

After more than 35 years caring for patients at Mater Cancer Care Centre and Radiation Oncology, Margie Reed has returned to Mater as a Volunteer Ambassador on our South Brisbane campus.

Having seen firsthand the difference volunteers make throughout her nursing career, Margie now spends her days helping patients, families and visitors find their way - offering directions, a reassuring word, and a warm welcome when they need it most.

"Kindness matters every day. You never know what someone may be going through, and even small acts of kindness can make a big difference."

Volunteers like Margie bring Mater's values to life, one small act of kindness at a time.
