As the cooler months settle in, there's something special about slowing down with a warm, comforting drink. This Spiced Chocolate Chai combines the richness of cocoa with fragrant spices and black tea to create a cozy beverage that's perfect for winter.
Made with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, anise, fresh ginger, black tea, cocoa, and creamy almond or soy milk, this recipe offers a beautiful balance of warming flavors and comforting aromas. It's a simple way to bring a little warmth and mindfulness to your day, whether you're enjoying a quiet morning, an afternoon break, or a relaxing evening at home.
โจ Ingredients:
โข 4 cardamom pods, cracked
โข 1 cinnamon stick
โข 4 whole cloves
โข ยผ tsp anise seed
โข 2โ4 slices fresh ginger, peeled
โข 2 cups water
โข 2 black tea bags
โข 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
โข 2โ4 tsp vanilla extract
โข 2 cups unsweetened almond or soy milk
โข 3 tbsp agave syrup or honey (or to taste)
๐ฅ Method:
1. Simmer the cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, anise seed, and ginger in water for 3 minutes.
2. Remove from heat, add tea bags, and steep for 4 minutes.
3. Remove tea bags and allow the spices to continue infusing for 20 minutes.
4. Strain the tea and return it to the saucepan.
5. Whisk cocoa with a small amount of the hot tea until smooth, then stir back into the tea.
6. Add vanilla and almond or soy milk and heat until steaming.
7. Sweeten to taste and serve warm.
