🎉 HAPPY 9TH ANNIVERSARY, SEASCAPE MEDICAL CENTRE! 🎉

Today marks the 9th anniversary of opening our doors at Seascape Medical Centre.

This was not the beginning of our journey, but rather the beginning of a vision — a vision to bring quality medical services under one roof and to attract more doctors and healthcare services to our region.
Recruiting and retaining GPs has continued to be our greatest challenge, but we will not stop. We will continue to press forward, working hard to attract more GPs and expand the medical services we offer, so we can best serve our wonderful community.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us over the years — our patients, our community, our colleagues, and, most importantly, our amazing team of doctors and staff. ❤️
A very special thank you to our incredible Assistant Manager, Phillipa Pip Barkl . Pip, your dedication, hard work, support and leadership have made such a significant impact on our practice. The BreastScreen NSW North Coast mobile van is coming to South West Rocks from Tuesday the 1st of September – Friday the 11th of September 2026.

The mobile breast screening unit is conveniently located at Sportsman Way, (Off Phillip Drive – Next to the skate park and behind the country club).

The chances of getting breast cancer increases with age; with 1 in 7 Australian women developing breast cancer in their lifetime. Regular two-yearly mammographic screening of asymptomatic women aged 50-74 has been shown to have the potential to reduce mortality from breast cancer. Indigenous women are encouraged to screen from 40 years of age.

Today was “Flanno for a farmer” day, a day to chuck on a flanno and raise money for farmers doing it tough.

Our farmers are facing incredible challenges. From droughts and floods to rising production costs and devastating mental health impacts, rural families are under pressure like never before. Every 10 days, we lose a farmer to su***de.

Our community and staff wore their flannos and threw in some $$ to donate to the Farm Angels to support our awesome farmers.

A total of $261.57 was raised and donated today.

On 26 January 1938, while many Australians celebrated the 150th anniversary of the landing of the First Fleet, a group of over 1000 Aboriginal people gathered at Australia Hall in Sydney to call for full citizenship status and laws to improve the lives of First Nations people.

As one of the first major civil rights gatherings in the world, this day became known as the Day of Mourning. Since then, National NAIDOC Week has grown to become both a commemoration of the first Day of Mourning as well as a celebration of the history, culture and excellence of First Nations people.

National NAIDOC Week is observed annually from the first Sunday in July until the following Sunday.

You may see this poster around our practice this week, this is the 2026 National NAIDOC week poster. The poster reflects not only the many significant social changes that have occurred since 1967 but also the evolution of art used to amplify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices.

We understand that many patients are feeling frustrated about the current doctor shortage and the impact this is having on continuity of care. Please know that we share these concerns and are working extremely hard to address them.

Like many rural and regional medical practices across Australia, we are facing significant challenges recruiting permanent GPs. Moreover, the mere distance to Port Macquarie has given Kempsey a significant advantage in recruitment in comparison to South West Rocks. This was one of the causes of our struggles, outlined during a recent meeting with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

To give ourselves the best possible chance of finding long-term doctors for our community, we are now working with eight different medical recruitment agencies and actively advertising multiple positions. We are exploring every available avenue to recruit permanent competent doctors who can provide the continuity of care our patients deserve.

We would like to ask our community to please be kind to our reception team. Our receptionists do not control doctor availability, recruitment, appointment schedules, or workforce shortages. They are doing their very best each day to assist patients, manage appointments, and support our doctors during a challenging period.

We will continue to keep the community updated on our recruitment efforts.

📢 Community Update

We would like to advise our patients and community that Dr Samaneh Tabatabei will be finishing up at our practice at the end of this month. We thank her for her contribution and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

We understand that continuity of care is important, and we want to reassure our patients that arrangements have been made to maintain medical services during this period. We have secured two experienced locum doctors, Dr Barbara H***e and Dr Susan Lumsdaine, who will be joining us in periods throughout July and August to help cover appointment availability while we continue our recruitment efforts for a permanent doctor.

We are actively working to attract a long-term addition to our medical team, including partnering with no less than 6 recruitment agencies to assist in this process. Our team remains committed to providing high-quality care to our community.

I Assume the photo has been taken Dec 2004 at Rocks Fair Medical Practice at the front shop of the Shopping Centre,
Dr Malak with the late Dr Peter wood & myself working as a receptionist.

The tie has a story....For those who know Akram, he hates formality, he's a man of action. The only time he would be happy to wear ties is around Christmas time and he would choose fun ties to cheer everyone as he always does in his own way.

As his companion in the journey of life, I have seen his dedication, hard work & commitment to deliver the best medical services to his patients, never settling for anything but the best. It was a privilage to work alongside him, working behind the scenes helping to run the business & serving our beautiful community.
Though I will always be around, but it's time for me to enjoy our grand kids. From Feb 2026 I have stepped down from my role as a practice manager, handing the big responsabilty of running the Practice, to the good capable hands of Shadi Malak. With his caring nature & long years of experience in public service & management and with the support of our incredible long term staff member Pip Barkl who has taken the position of Assistant Manager, I trust that they will work together to bring a new fresh & modern approach that will help improve our services aiming to best serve our community.
As I look back, I feel blessed of how far we have come. I am grateful for the opportunity to be of service to our amazing community behind the scenes. I have developed a close relationship with many, feeling the love and care and truly feeling that I'm between my big family. I am also grateful for working with an amazing team, with whom I shared the ups & downs. We laughed & found each other's shoulder a place to lean on & cry. We learnt from each other &worked as a team, sharing one goal....to provide the best service to a community which deserves nothing but the best.
Sorry for the long post, but seeing the memory brought back 22 years back. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each one who has shared with us our journey, thank you for always making us feel loved.
The Malak family will Forever be grateful for being welcomed in the community with open hearts. It's the place we are proud to call home.

P.S : Dr Malak is not Retiring soon. He's still doing an amazing job as a grandfather but prefers to do it in his spare time. 😂
