VFLW athlete, Issy, is continuing to build the foundations for high level game performance. Developing the ability to maintain trunk stability through contact, change direction under pressure and execute skills in dynamic game scenarios requires exceptional control in multiplanar movement.

For Issy, building capacity to stabilise and control the trunk through rotational and ipsilateral movement patterns lays the groundwork for powerful, efficient and precise ex*****on in play.

A sneak peek into this weeks DNS class!

Our Tuesday night dynamic neuromuscular stabilization class is a great way to bring stability and control back into your body, enabling it to move the way it was designed to move 💪

Better posture, better breathing, better performance.

If you are interested in joining this class, check out our website for more information!

DNS Approach to lower back injury – Part 3

A few weeks ago, Issy was struggling with persistent lower back pain. Now? Issy is back playing footy, moving well, and recently finished best on ground in a practice match 💪

The biggest shift wasn’t just reducing pain, it was restoring control, stability, and confidence through movement. By continuing to build strong foundations with DNS, Issy’s been able to return to the field feeling more capable and resilient.

Progress isn’t always linear, but this is a pretty good sign we’re heading in the right direction

Wellness On Time magazine has just released their newest issue, the ‘Move Well’ edition, and on of our experienced exercise physiologists has featured!

Brad Taylor has written a detailed section on dynamic neuromuscular stabilization, and it is definitely worth a read. We offer DNS classes here at The EP Group, so if you’re interested in finding out more, then make sure to check this out!

DNS for optimal performance - Part 3

Continuing on from Ged’s last session, maintaining trunk stability under pressure was a main focus for today. Ged worked on maintaining intra-abdominal pressure in ground ball evasion drills.

The goal for Ged isn’t just to move well in isolation, it’s about maintaining control, posture, and efficient force transfer while reacting to game speed demands.

By combining developmental positions with dynamic footy specific movement, we can challenge:
• Trunk control
• Hip stability
• Change of direction mechanics
• Reactive coordination under fatigue

Helping young athletes build movement foundations that transfer directly to performance on the field.

DNS Approach to lower back injury - Part 2

After the last session, Issy has been putting in the work, staying consistent with DNS exercises and rebuilding movement from the ground up.

The result? Issy is now back on the field with significantly reduced pain and improved control.

No quick fixes. No band-aid solutions.Just a better understanding of how the body moves, and training it that way.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS) isn’t just about getting out of pain, it’s about staying out of it.

This is what progress looks like 📈

The Exercise and Sport Science Australia has officially launched their National “Axe the Tax” on health campaign.

In this campaign you can sign their national petition calling on the Australian Government to remove GST from exercise physiology services.

It only takes a minute to sign this petition and it would mean the world to us!

DNS for Optimal Performance - Part 2

Following on from our last post, the next phase of development is working on the transference of DNS principles into specific skills tasks related to Ged’s sport.

It’s important to progress to function based tasks as early as possible and ensure that success can be monitored both intrinsically and extrinsically.

How it feels to Ged to perform these tasks implementing DNS principles is important (eg. it should feel easier, more balanced, better timing etc.) but most importantly, does it improve speed, accuracy and other external outcomes?  This is where the specific targets become useful.

DNS for Optimal Performance - Part 1

In this series we’re demonstrating how DNS integrates into High Performance training.

Ged Saunders, first year player for Footscray Bulldogs VFL. Building high level skills relies on exemplary foundational movement patterns.  For Ged to be able to win a ground ball, absorb contact and/or change movement direction to evade an opponent and execute a handball to an outside running teammate in traffic requires exceptional trunk stability in multiplanar movement.

Building capacity to control the trunk in an ipsilateral turn enables powerful and precise skill ex*****on.  Stay tuned to see where we take this sequence next.
