Healing from healing.
I recently heard a friend say she was “healing from healing” and I laughed because… yep.
I’m soon entering my 10th year in the spiritual / self-development world.
And I’ve grown profoundly through excavating old wounds, learning boundaries, rewriting my body love and sexuality stories, and all the beautiful (and sometimes messy) practices along the way.
But today, more than ever, I can see this:
I am a perfectly imperfect human.
People, I’m flawed as f**k. And so are you.
Because we’re human.
There is no perfect island of “healed” that we eventually arrive at.
And yet, it’s so easy to turn healing into another thing we have to do perfectly.
Miss your morning practice? You’ve failed.
Don’t feel as vulnerable as the person next to you? More work to do.
Haven’t had the mythical G-**ot Ogasm? Clearly you missed the memo.
Our old perfectionism can quietly follow us into our spiritual lives.
Lately, I’ve been learning to revel in my imperfections. To swim around in them like a pig in muck.
And you know what?
It’s making me a more relaxed human.
And, as a beautiful byproduct, a better facilitator.
Because really…
We are all standing on the same round earth, spinning through space, wondering what the heck is going on.
I may have a passion and capacity for sharing what I’ve learned, but that doesn’t make me a guru.
I make mistakes. I get triggered. I cry on the floor asking God, “WHY?!”
And I also put feathers in my nose, wear ni**le rings, and keep getting on with this glorious, ridiculous life.
Maybe healing isn’t about becoming perfectly healed.
Maybe it’s about becoming more willing to be exactly who we are.
Flawed. Tender. Messy. Alive.
Are you done taking yourself so seriously in your self-development too?
