As we continue to recognise Learning Disability Week 2026, we’re shining a spotlight on Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) - a lifelong, brain‑based communication disability that affects the way children understand and use language. DLD is more common than many people realise, yet it often goes unseen, because children with DLD can appear high functioning and still struggle with language in ways that impact learning, friendships and confidence.

We’re proud to acknowledge the incredible work of The DLD Project, an Australian organisation dedicated to raising awareness, improving community understanding and ensuring children and young people with DLD are supported across home, school and community settings. Their mission is simple and powerful: to make DLD visible, understood and supported.

At QPAH our speech pathologists, occupational therapists and music therapists work alongside children with DLD every day. We see firsthand how the right support can strengthen communication, participation and wellbeing. With the right strategies and a team around them, children with DLD can thrive.

This week is a reminder that awareness leads to understanding, and understanding leads to inclusion. When educators, families and communities know what DLD is and how to support it, we create environments where every child can succeed.

A huge moment for QPAH and for the disability community.

QPAH’s submission to the Inquiry into the NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 has now been officially published by the government as Submission 449 - one of more than 4500 submissions received! The disability community has certainly stood up.

In our submission, we highlighted what we see every day:
• The life‑changing value of the NDIS
• The fragility of the systems that make it work in practice
• The risks of reforms that reduce access to essential allied health supports
• The importance of continuity of care, regional equity and sustainable provider markets.

As we wrote in our submission, “When supports are reduced or delayed below a safe and effective level, risk does not disappear. It is shifted to families, schools, hospitals and crisis systems.”

We are proud to advocate for reforms that strengthen supports without compromising participant access, safety or outcomes.

If you’d like to read our full submission, you can find Submission 449 for QPAH here: https://qpah.com.au/ndis-bill-2026-submission-support/

NDIS changes are creating a lot of uncertainty for families - especially when unexpected phone calls from the NDIA come through. You’re not alone in feeling unsure about what to say or how to prepare.

Our latest blog breaks down what these calls are about, why they’re happening and the practical steps families can take to feel confident and informed.

We cover:
• What NDIA officers may ask
• How to prepare before you answer
• What information you do and don’t need to provide
• How to protect your rights and your child’s support
• When to ask for the questions in writing.

At QPAH, we’re committed to helping families navigate these changes with clarity and confidence. If you’ve received one of these calls or you’re worried you might, this guide is for you.

Learning Disability Week 2026 is here, and we’re celebrating the strengths, voices and achievements of people with learning disabilities across our community.

At QPAH, we believe everyone deserves the chance to learn, grow and participate in ways that feel meaningful and empowering. Our allied health team works alongside children, young people and adults with learning disabilities to build communication skills, confidence, independence and connection.

This week is a reminder that inclusion isn’t a theme, it’s a practice. It’s listening deeply, adapting thoughtfully and creating environments where people of all abilities can thrive.

We’re proud to stand with individuals, families and supporters who champion understanding and acceptance every day.

Supporting educators is one of our favourite things to do!

Our Director and Principal Registered Music Therapist, Monica, has been delivering music‑based training for the wonderful educators at My Cubby House . This week, she was joined by our Occupational Therapist, Taylor, to explore practical ways movement, regulation and sensory strategies can be woven into everyday routines.

We love working alongside early childhood educators to build confidence and create meaningful learning moments for children. If your centre is interested in tailored training for your team, simply ask. Many services also use Kindy Uplift funding to offset the cost of this training.

And don’t forget - we’re hosting a free 20‑minute online info session on 23 June at 1pm to share how our Early Learning Partnerships can support your centre.

We’re proud to share that our Allied Health Assistant, Moriah, has successfully completed her LAMP AAC training.

This is a fantastic step in strengthening the support we provide to clients who use AAC. LAMP gives individuals a consistent, motor‑based pathway to language, helping them build communication skills that grow with them across environments and stages of life.

Moriah’s dedication to learning and expanding her skills means our clients continue to receive high‑quality, evidence‑based support tailored to their needs. We’re lucky to have her on the QPAH team.
