*Why Is One Session Usually Not Enough?*

One of the most common questions Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy practitioners hear is:

"How many sessions will I need?"

The most honest answer is: It depends on what your body is trying to change.

The human body is not a machine that can simply be repaired. It is a living, adaptive system where the nervous system, fluids, fascia, and tissues are constantly interacting.

Many physical and emotional patterns do not appear suddenly. They develop gradually—sometimes over months or years—as the body adapts to stress, injury, or overwhelming experiences. These patterns are not failures; they are often intelligent survival strategies that once helped the organism stay balanced and functional.

And just as they develop over time, they also need time to change.

In Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, we do not force change. We support the conditions in which the nervous system can gradually return to regulation, allowing the body to reorganise long-held patterns at its own pace.

Each session builds on the previous one. The body integrates what has shifted, finds a new sense of stability, and only then reveals what is ready to emerge next. This process cannot be rushed and is different for everyone.

This does not mean therapy should continue endlessly.

The goal is never dependence on the practitioner.

On the contrary—the aim is to strengthen the body’s natural capacity for self-regulation, so that over time the need for treatment naturally decreases.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is not a quick fix. It is a way of supporting deeper, more sustainable change by working with the body’s inherent intelligence.

*Why Does Trauma Need to Heal Through the Body?*

When we think about trauma, we often think of painful memories or overwhelming emotions.

However, both contemporary neuroscience and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy suggest that trauma is much more than a psychological experience. It is fundamentally a whole-body response to an event that exceeded the organism’s capacity to cope.

In moments of threat, the autonomic nervous system shifts into survival mode. Breathing changes, muscle tone increases, connective tissues adapt, and the movement of body fluids is altered. Perception of ourselves and the environment also shifts. The body reorganises itself around a strategy designed to protect life.

When this adaptive response cannot fully complete, it may remain as part of the body’s ongoing organisation.

The external danger may have passed long ago, yet the organism can continue to function as if it is still present.

This is why intellectual understanding alone is often not enough.

We may know we are safe, yet the body still responds with tension, restricted breathing, hypervigilance, or a persistent sense of unease.

In Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, we do not try to suppress these responses. Instead, we create a safe relational field in which the nervous system can gradually release survival patterns and reconnect with its innate capacity for self-regulation. As taught in the Body Intelligence training, this reorganisation involves tissues, fluids, and emotional experience simultaneously. These are not separate processes, but different expressions of one integrated movement toward balance.

Trauma is therefore not only a story held in the mind.

It is an experience held by the whole organism.

For this reason, healing often becomes deeper and more sustainable when the body is fully included in the process alongside awareness and understanding.

I am saying it again because we need to hear it:
Self care is the most important when it is the hardest to do!

If we find it hard to fit in self care we are probably in a stress response. That can be triggered by financial stress, work load, personal stress or sudden changes.
Now the important thing is to recognise that we need to do something to regulate and get out of the stress response before it hijacks us further.
And I am not saying this just because, I am saying this because I have been there myself and frequently end up there.

So bottom line is this is a reminder for YOU and ME to not forget about self care!

Very grateful for this amazing review from Katie!

"I brought my 5-month-old baby to see Verena because of concerns about her head shape and tight neck muscles. Verena was so warm and friendly and worked completely around my baby’s needs. Her gentle approach made the appointment feel very relaxed and comfortable.
Even after the first session, I could already see a huge difference, and my daughter seemed so much happier in herself. Verena also helped with my daughter’s gut and stomach issues and adjusted the way she feeds, which has helped reduce the amount of air she takes in while drinking.
I would highly recommend bringing your baby to see Verena. She is incredibly caring and knowledgeable, and there is absolutely no pressure to book another appointment unless you feel it’s needed."
