Yesterday I gave myself a 'kick up the butt'.
Well, obviously not literally ๐คฃ, but that's what I call it when I give myself a talking to...in the kindest way of course, just firm.
It's amazing how long we can tell ourselves stories about why we are doing, or not doing something.
We are spiritual beings, having a human experience after-all & we are here to learn.
I was reluctant to share this at first, thinking I can't because women look to me for inspiration, guidance & support, & they might not trust me if I share this.
Haha omg๐คฃhow silly! Thankfully I realised that I must continue to allow myself to be vulnerable cos that is real.
As I've mentioned previously, I'm now in late perimenopause, getting super close to menopause.
Thanks to my intuition, & some of my training over the years, I'm feeling great...hot flashes gone, my hair has been growing again after years of thinning, I feel strong & balanced & well.
But insomnia has been my very unwelcome, almost consistent companion for some time now & omg how the body needs sleep.
I've found supplements & herbal teas that help hugely, I do self Reiki, meditate & exercise daily & eat healthily always. I journal, visualise & feel into my intentions. I dance, write & listen to music, & I spend quality time with family, friends, animals & in nature.
I brought myself new pink PJs & pink slipper boots & wear a sleep mask.
I take Epsom salt baths, read & put my phone away.
All of this helps...AND sometimes it does not & too often lately, I've been finding it hard to get to sleep, waking after 2-3 hours, downing more magnesium glycinate & sometimes getting another snippet of sleep, sometimes not, then moving through the day, somehow functioning & living in hope of getting a good night's sleep.
At times I have felt desperate for sleep & beyond exhausted, wondering if this is how it's going to be from now on.
I've worked on changing my thoughts & beliefs & words around sleep & my ability to sleep too.
What more could there be for a woman to try?!!
I'm not a giver-upper. I'll keep going, going & going, when everyone else has stopped...whatever it may be.
Then yesterday it finally dawned on me.
I have been eating differently to the way I know that works for my body for optimum wellness.
You see, maybe you didn't know this about me, but I started as a weight & wellness coach in approx 2016.
In order to help my clients to the best of my ability, I had to change to the way of eating that the program taught.
If you've read my chapter in the Start Over - Turn any Loss into a Sensational Comeback, Volume 7 book, you'll know that that way of eating changed my life, significantly improving my mental health & keeping my hormones balanced.
Over the years, I helped many women (& some men) achieve sustainable weight loss, hugely improve their health & wellbeing & self esteem in this way.
We all have a different carbohydrate tolerance & that program helps to determine what each person's is. I discovered that my body feels best & functions best when I eat low carb.
Of course that's only part of it & I'm not giving away all my secrets here, but what I realised yesterday is that I've not been doing that lately.
I've been enjoying gluten free oats, banana, protein powder, honey & soy milk in the mornings, eating way less veges daily than I know I need to, skipping a meal here & there & indulging in g/f toast with real butter & avocado or the delicious, crunchy, healthier type of peanut butter.
You may wonder what the issue is here.
While the food I've been eating is healthy, it doesn't help my hormones, & means I've been eating above my body's carb tolerance, not eating enough veges or protein & this in turn has an effect on sleep.
If I'm honest, I've been sneaking the odd small choccy bar & icecream too (sugar has a detrimental effect on hormones & sleep, esp in this phase).
Yesterday I told myself 'Remember who you are. Remember what you know. You know what to do. Time to be strict again'.
I asked myself why I went off track in the first place, & without going into detail, there are reasons. Yes, one was protection. I will share more in another post about this.
Time to tap into more of the wisdom that lies within & I'm grateful for this lightbulb moment.
Can you relate? ๐๐๐
