🧚‍♀️ K U A N • Y I N 🧚‍♀️

🧚‍♀️ Today, on the 19th day of the 2nd lunar month, we celebrate the first of three yearly birthdays associated with Kuan Yin - the goddess of compassion and mercy. This first birthday is associated with her actual birth, while the second represents her renunciation and finally the third representing her passing this world to attain Bodhisattvaship.

🧚‍♀️ Her title is actually shortened from Kuan Shi Yin, which roughly translates to "One who perceives the sound of the world". And although she is represented by a woman, she can take on any gender or identity (even beyond human form).

🧚‍♀️ "She is a little like an ideal friend or imaginary family member. She suggests alternatives to despising oneself. She knows that benevolence towards others has to begin with self-acceptance. Her kindly eyes smile and have a habit of making one cry - for as we know, the moment one breaks down isn't always or even mostly when one if facing overt hostility, rather when, after a period of hardship, one finally encounters kindness and space to admit to the difficulties one has been labouring with in stoic lonely silence for too long. One can be weak with Guan Yin, she isn't impressed by the normal wordly criteria of success, there is no shame in crying in front of her and admitting the scale of one's distress."

🧧 2 0 2 2 • Z O D I A C • G U I D E 🧧

🦚 The Chinese zodiac system was originally designed as a destiny chart using Chinese Metaphysics to help understand one’s possible paths in life.

🦚 This system assigns 12 zodiac animals based on the lunar calendar, according to your YEAR of birth.

🦚 Each year, every zodiac animal is accompanied by a variety of Auspicious (lucky) stars and/or Inauspicious stars (unlucky). Knowing your stars help you to be proactive, rather than reactive in the way you walk through the year. If you know how to activate the energy of your lucky stars, and be cautious around the energy of your unlucky stars, you will walk through this coming year with ease.

🦚For a deeper understanding of your animal chart, you can consult the “Ba Zi” or “4 pillars of destiny” – Year, Month, Day and Hour Pillars. Your zodiac animal is represented in your year pillar, which describes your personal branding and main character traits. You are likely to find different animals in your Month, Day and Hour pillars, as they relate to different aspects of your life. Month pillar relates to your work and career, while Day pillar relates to yourself and your spouse, and Hour pillar relates to your assets and investments.

🦚 Stay tuned as we start an in depth look at the year ahead for each zodiac animal tomorrow! We start with the Grand Duke of this coming year, the Tiger 🐯, followed by the Rabbit 🐰 and Dragon 🐲.

❤ WEAR RED!

As with our decorations, wearing red for the lunar new year celebrations denotes prosperity and good energy coming your way. It is customary to gift a person whose zodiac year it is with red underwear to help bring them good fortune in their animal year, which is often seen as a challenging year.

👵👴 HONOUR YOUR ANCESTORS

This is a time when we think of family, and especially those who came in the generations before us. An alter with food offerings is set up to show honour to our ancestors, and this is often done before the family eats to show respect.

🫂 REUNION DINNER

On the eve of the lunar new year, people will make every effort to make the journey to be with their families. The family reunion dinner is an event not to be missed, and many traditional foods are enjoyed such as dumplings (which signify wealth and prosperity) and glutinous rice balls, or TangYuan (which signify family togetherness, aww).

🧧 GIFT RED ENVELOPES

Children are gifted with red envelopes filled with money, very often the amount being comprised of lucky Chinese numbers such as 6 and 8. Being a kid at Chinese New Year is definitely a fruitful event!

🧨 LET OFF FIRE CRACKERS

The streets of China become painted in a sea of red as fire crackers are set off for what seems like 10 days straight. The fire crackers sound out the old year scaring away evil spirits, bringing in a fresh clean energy for the new year.

🧧 P R E P A R A T I O N 🧧

There are a few things that we like to do in preparation for the lunar new year.

⛩ CLEAN THE HOUSE

This involves a thorough clean up of the house to sweep away all the stagnant and yucky energies from the year that was, in preparation to open the door to the good fortune and endless possibilities that the energy of the new year ushers towards you. It is important not to clean or sweep away this good fortune on new years day, which is why this needs to be done BEFORE the new year.

💇‍♀️ CUT & WASH YOUR HAIR

This follows the principles around cleaning the house. It is important to cut and wash our hair before new years day, and not to cut and wash away the good fortune that begins to enter our lives in the new year.

🧧 DECORATE WITH RED

Red is the auspicious, or lucky colour of the lunar new year, denoting prosperity and good energy to ward off evil spirits and negativity. Fill your life with it!

🧧C H I N E S E • N E W • Y E A R 🧧

The lunar new year is just around the corner as we prepare to bring in the energy of the Water Tiger 🐯 on the 1st of February.

The year of the 🐀 Rat (2020) was about survival, and the year of the Ox 🐂 (2021) was about hard work and pragmatism.

The year of the Tiger will be about making big changes and bold actions, and don’t be surprised if these happen quickly under the influence of the Yang energy of the Tiger. The Tiger is known for its daring ability to do everything on a grand scale.

To celebrate the coming of the lunar new year, I will be sharing some of my culture and traditions with you all. Keep your eyes peeled in the coming days as I go through each Chinese zodiac animal’s yearly horoscope guide for 2022!

Just doing a spot of Ancestral trauma healing sprinkled with some past life regression.

This journey was facilitated by the spectacular Mrinal of and I can honestly say it was an experience and a half and then some more. I felt so safe as I was guided by Mrinal, while she facilitated the session with ease and grace 🥰

A magical digestive tonic!

Pictured here is the dried, sliced form of the Hawthorn berry. This sweetly flavoured herb aids digestion and food stagnation, especially when it comes to proteins and fats. It is commonly given to kids who have overeaten or feel abdominal distension, to help process and digest foods. For all the Asian kids out there, this will be a childhood throwback!

Because of it's ability to aid fat digestion, it has also been shown to lower cholesterol via several mechanisms, making it a great daily tea of people with hypercholesterolaemia.

Keeping on the fats digestion - anyone who is eating a high fat diet, such as the Ketogenic diet, will find this a great additive to help the body deal with the fats and avoid damp accumulation.

This beautiful herb has also been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth, and can help contract the uterus post birth.

Plus, it's super delish! Enjoy brewed as a tea or eat the dried fruit as is!

Element: Fire
Colour: Red
Emotion: Joy

💜 People who resonate with the HEART personality type tend to be passionate, creative and authoritative. Their fire glows! They inspire others with their charisma and creativity, and have a natural tendency to be joyful. They enjoy connecting with other people, but can have difficulty with boundaries or feeling of isolation.

When heart archetypes are out of balance, they can experience anxiety or other representations of an over-active nervous system, such as over-excitation or mania. They can also tend towards insomnia, high blood pressure and headaches when out of balance.

To bring the heart into balance, try to lean into some cooling and bitter foods such as rocket, bitter melon, chamomile and peppermint teas. Grounding activities will be especially important for the Heart people!

💜 For my FIVE ELEMENT friends out there, you can nourish the Mother (Liver) to tonify the Heart, or nourish the Grandmother (Kidney) to restrain an over-active Heart.

💜 Of the 5 Yin organs of the body, the HEART is often likened to a Monarch and holds responsible for our spiritual and mental activities. As the house for our Shen, our Spirit, it is important to maintain a clean and tidy heart home so that our spirit may feel at peace and able to rest.

⭐ O R A C L E • C A R D S ⭐

I've felt very connected lately to the Animal Spirit deck developed by Kim Krans. I could feel the deck staring at me every time I would walk past the now dubbed "Pyramid of Magic" in the front room at , and it wasn't long before I had to take them home with me.

The concept, artwork and deck development continue to amaze me as I become more and more connected with the cards.

What cards have you been feeling lately?

Element: Water
Colour: Black
Climate: Cold
Organs: Kidney and Bladder

❄ "The Kidney consolidates and stores the Qi that initiates and keeps life growing. Like a minister of interior who conserves natural resources, stockpiling essential raw materials for use in times of growth, crisis or transition, the Kidney preserves what is essential, the Essence, of human life. As the well of vitality and endurance, the Kidney is the germ of intellect, creativity, and houses our instinct to procreate and survive."

~ Between Heaven and Earth

❄ Following the season of Autumn which began our Yin journey inwards, we now sit in the peak Yin of the year as represented by Winter. This is a time where the cold contracts inwards towards the core, the site of creation and germination.

This is a great time to sit with stillness, ask insightful questions, and to reflect.

It is also important to support the warming Kidney Yang through this season to keep us warm and our metabolic processes supported. Lots of soups, stews and ginger teas this season!
