There are so many myths surrounding dyslexia, with most people believing being dyslexic means we just reverse letters.

Dyslexia affects so much more than our ability to read.

The challenges dyslexia brings can have a huge impact on our self esteem and self worth, which is why it’s essential we dispel the general misconceptions and talk about some of the real struggles dyslexia can bring to our everyday lives.

Working memory is a cognitive brain system that temporarily holds and actively manipulates information.

Symptoms of poor working memory include struggling with multi-step directions, forgetting what you just read, and losing your train of thought mid-sentence.

The relationship between ADHD and memory is complex rather than absolute. Athough working memory deficits are generally a common feature.

I feel like classroom teachers and schools are still trying to 'manage' our neurodiverse childrens 'behaviours'.

When if fact, they should be looking at the why. Behaviour afterall is communication, right?

Perhaps the child is showing you a 'bad' behaviour because they haven't quite yet mastered a particular skill such as resilence or self regulation.

I believe teachers are in fact doing a disservice to themselves by not using these moments to actually teach, coach, and guide rather than disicipline or separate.

Maybe it's the pressure of 'getting through' the curriculum and successful academic data results that pushes teachers to forget why they wanted a career in teaching in the first place...what are your thoughts?
