There has been a lot of discussions in the media around 60 day dispensing which has been announced by the health minister recently. There are a number of concerning flow on effects that will occur if this policy is passed in full.
Pharmacists such as myself do many things in the course of a day to improve the wellbeing of the people that walk through our doors. Throughout COVID and beyond it has become clear how important peoples connection is with their community pharmacy.
60 day dispensing threatens this connection with peoples pharmacist and will result in pharmacy closures or reduced services. Currently we do many services and advice for free and we will not be able to continue to provide the service that the community needs if this Ill thought out policy progresses.
My customers have already expressed concern over their medicine regimes being even more confusing with 28, 30 and now 60 day amounts being issued.
