As manager of Emmaus Aged Care Village, Michelle knows better than most the complexities of dementia care. To her, it's all about seeing the person first, not the condition.

“Dementia strips away many things, but it never removes a person’s need to feel safe, respected, and valued,” she says. “They still feel emotions deeply, even if they can’t always express them clearly.”

For those supporting a loved one living with dementia, her advice is simple. “Be kind to yourself. You don’t have to have all the answers. Take time to learn about the person, not just the condition, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.”

Each day at Emmaus Village brings new challenges and rewards but, for Michelle, it's that kind of work that brings the greatest satisfaction. 💚
