Trust the process. 🐴🤎
Bob was an unhandled yearling when I purchased him.
He had very little human interaction and came from a large property out west. When he came to me, he was suddenly exposed to all the things that come with everyday life: cars, machinery, people, noises, new environments and everything in between.
And he was reactive.
I’ve had plenty of people tell me that Bob was dangerous. That he was too hard. That I should give up.
But Bob is super cuddly, very affectionate and very trusting. At lest with me. He doesn’t like strangers very much.
I wasn’t going to give up, so I gave him time.
We slowly introduced new things. We worked through the things that scared him. Some days we made huge progress, and other days we simply went back to basics. But we stayed consistent.
I never put a time limit on his training. We still don’t have a time limit. We just have our goals.
I didn’t care how long it takes.
I just focused on being consistent, patient and giving him the time he needed to understand and build confidence.
And now, a year later, we have finally reached a pretty special milestone.
I’m able to get on him, and we’ve started his training under saddle.
We have a very long way to go.
But that’s not the point.
Sometimes you just need to trust the process.
Don’t rush the things that take time.
Be patient.
Be consistent.
Celebrate the small wins.
