๐Ÿ” Are you checking hip internal rotation (ROM) when assessing hip pain?

It's one of the most commonly restricted movements I see, yet it's often overlooked when trying to understand why someone is experiencing hip discomfort or limited mobility.

Here's something else to consider...

Many assessment tools don't have to stop at assessment. The right tests can also become valuable exercises that help improve movement, build awareness, and increase range of motion during your classes or treatment sessions.

That's exactly what we'll be exploring in my upcoming masterclass:

IF I KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW ABOUT MENOPAUSE...

After more than 20 years as a clinical therapist, I've treated thousands of women with pain.

Hip pain.
Back pain.
Knee pain.
Foot pain.
Shoulder pain.

I've spent years studying myofascial release, movement therapy and rehabilitation, helping clients improve movement and reduce pain.

But there is one thing I often reflect on:

I wish I knew then what I know now about menopause.

For years, I focused on biomechanics, fascia, strength, stability and movement patterns.

All important pieces of the puzzle.

But what I didn't fully appreciate was how much declining hormones can influence pain.

Today, we know estrogen plays a key role in:
๐Ÿ”ต inflammation regulation
๐Ÿ”ต collagen production
๐Ÿ”ต connective tissue health
๐Ÿ”ต fascia hydration
๐Ÿ”ต recovery capacity
๐Ÿ”ต joint stability

As hormone levels decline, many women experience more stiffness, aches, joint pain and slower recovery.

And often, neither the woman nor the practitioner recognises hormones as a contributing factor.

This doesn't mean hormones are the only cause of pain.

But they may be an important piece of the puzzle that deserves consideration.

Looking back, I can't help but wonder how many women I treated were navigating menopause-related changes without anyone joining the dots.

It's one of the reasons I'm so passionate about menopause education today.

Because when we understand the whole picture, we can create better outcomes, better movement strategies and better support for women.

๐Ÿคธ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช That's exactly what we'll be exploring in my LIVE workshop:

HIP MOBILITY ISN'T JUST ABOUT FLEXIBILITY ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

One of the biggest mistakes I see when it comes to hip pain is focusing only on stretching.

The hips need more than mobility.

They need strength.
They need stability.
They need control.

This exercise is one of my favourites because it works on all three.

Not only does it help improve hip mobility and range of motion, but it also challenges:
โœ” hip stability
โœ” glute strength
โœ” extensor muscle function
โœ” pelvic floor engagement
โœ” movement control and coordination

For women in menopause, these qualities become even more important.

As hormones change, we can experience:
๐Ÿ”ต increased joint stiffness
๐Ÿ”ต reduced stability
๐Ÿ”ต slower recovery
๐Ÿ”ต changes in connective tissue health
๐Ÿ”ต movement-related aches and pains

The goal isn't simply to move more.

The goal is to move well.

Building strength and stability through the hips can help improve confidence, function and resilience in everyday movement and exercise.

This is exactly the type of practical approach we'll be exploring in my LIVE workshop:

WHY DOES EVERYTHING HURT MORE IN MENOPAUSE? ๐Ÿค

This photo was taken just before my second round of spinal/disc surgery during the 2021 COVID lockdowns.

By this point, I was in so much pain.

Standing was actually the least painful thing for me to doโ€ฆ so I did a lot of it.

Iโ€™ve had two rounds of spinal surgery, so Iโ€™m no stranger to chronic pain, lower back stiffness and movement limitations.

But about 5 months ago, I started noticing something different.

Everything ached.

I was waking up stiff, sore and struggling to bend down and put my shoes on in the morning without โ€œwarming upโ€ first.

I honestly thought:
โ€œMaybe Iโ€™m just overtraining.โ€
โ€œMaybe Iโ€™m doing too much in the gym.โ€

But when I started MHT (Menopause Hormone Therapy), my aches and pains disappeared within TWO WEEKS.

I couldnโ€™t believe how powerful estrogen is as the bodyโ€™s natural anti-inflammatory.

This is something many women donโ€™t realise:
Hormonal changes can play a huge role in systemic pain during menopause.

As estrogen declines, we can experience:
๐Ÿ”ต increased inflammation
๐Ÿ”ต more joint stiffness
๐Ÿ”ต connective tissue changes
๐Ÿ”ต collagen loss
๐Ÿ”ต dehydration in tissues
๐Ÿ”ต slower recovery
๐Ÿ”ต increased โ€œwear and tearโ€ sensations in vulnerable joints

And often this pain shows up in the areas that are already vulnerable:
hips, lower back, knees, feet, shoulders.

Many women, myself included, donโ€™t initially recognise this as potentially hormone related.

We simply think:
โ€œIโ€™m getting older.โ€
โ€œIโ€™m less fit.โ€
โ€œIโ€™m doing too much.โ€

But hormones matter.

This is one of the reasons Iโ€™m so passionate about educating fitness professionals and women on menopause, movement and pain.

Because understanding the WHY changes everything.

Tight inner thighs, restricted hips, pelvic tension and reduced mobility are incredibly common during menopause - and often the adductors are part of the conversation.

In this video, Iโ€™m demonstrating a hip internal rotation exercise focused on hip mobility in this range and strengthening the adductor muscles. Adductors support:
โœ” hip mobility
โœ” movement freedom
โœ” pelvic stability
โœ” fascia hydration
โœ” range of motion
โœ” overall movement quality

During menopause, changes in connective tissue, recovery and inflammation can all contribute to tension and restriction through the hips and inner thighs.

This is why myofascial release can be such a powerful tool for helping women move and feel better.

Inside my workshops and online classes, I teach practical techniques that can be immediately applied into movement sessions, recovery work and client programming.

I still remember running some of my very first workshops back in 2020.

At the time, I simply wanted to create a space where women and fitness professionals could come together to learn, move, ask questions and feel supported.

I never imagined where it would lead.

Fast forward to today, and Iโ€™ve now had the privilege of teaching accredited masterclasses for fitness professionals, mentoring coaches and helping others create successful - often sold out - workshops of their own.

And honestly?

The value and joy this work has brought me and my clients has been immense.

There is something incredibly special about being in the room with people who all want to:
โœ” learn
โœ” grow
โœ” connect
โœ” improve the way they support others

Live education creates conversations, confidence and community in a way online learning simply canโ€™t replace.

Every workshop has reminded me why I love teaching so much.

Hip pain in menopause is more common than many women realise.

Tight hips, aching joints, reduced mobility, stiffness getting up from the floor, discomfort walking, training or sleepingโ€ฆ these are conversations I hear every single week from women 35+.

Hormonal changes during menopause can affect:
โ€ข fascia & connective tissue
โ€ข muscle recovery
โ€ข joint stability
โ€ข inflammation
โ€ข nervous system regulation

And often the hips are one of the first places women start to feel it.

This is why mobility work matters.

Inside my MenoFit Online classes, we focus on movement that helps improve:
โœ”๏ธ hip mobility
โœ”๏ธ range of motion (ROM)
โœ”๏ธ joint support
โœ”๏ธ stability
โœ”๏ธ body awareness
โœ”๏ธ recovery

Simple mobility exercises like this can help women move with less restriction and feel more confident in their bodies again.

This is exactly why I created my NEW Live Masterclass:

ARE WOMEN IN MENOPAUSE UNDER-FUELLING?

Many women are trying to train harderโ€ฆ
while eating less.

And then wondering why they feel:
โ–ช constantly fatigued
โ–ช sore for days after training
โ–ช frustrated with body composition changes
โ–ช unable to recover between workouts
โ–ช like their body โ€œisnโ€™t respondingโ€ anymore

Menopause changes recovery, muscle protein synthesis, stress response and energy demands.

So if youโ€™re:
โœ” lifting weights
โœ” doing HYROX, running or high-intensity training
โœ” increasing cardio
โœ” pushing harder in the gymโ€ฆ

โ€ฆbut not eating enough protein or overall calories to support recovery, your body may stay stuck in a cycle of stress and under-recovery.

Recovery is not just about rest days.
Itโ€™s also about fuel.

๐Ÿ’กTIP: Getting protein within 60 minutes of a weights session can help muscle recovery and reduce next-day soreness.

A lot of women donโ€™t actually need to train harder.
They may need to recover better.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Reflect honestly:
Are you truly fuelling enough for the training youโ€™re asking your body to do?
