I wake before the others & sit on the cliffside mesmerised by turquoise seas crashing into black rock, meeting for a brief moment. A cacophony of thundering waves & birdsong & the low hum of the island slowly stirring. I close my eyes & the borders of myself dissolve. I am fluid as the seas yet eternal as this volcanic rock that like my body is somehow made up nearly entirely of space.

An ecotone is defined as a transitional area where two seperate ecosystems blend together.

I think how separate we have become, especially in the west. How the transition area between us & the earth, or us & God/spirit is so stark. A line drawn in the sand, me & other. Us & them.

Here that boundary feels more blurred. Relationship with spirit is as much a part of life as a morning coffee. Gratitude offered equally through fuchsia flower petals as through corner store crackers or ci******es. All bundled together in a palm leaf tray, Canang Sari, placed not only at temples but in doorways, alleys, vehicles.

A relationship with the divine that acknowledges it is everywhere. It flows through every ecotone, every place where one ends & another begins. Sacredness not reserved for what we deem worthy of worship, sacredness inherent simply by existing in this world.

Tri Hita Karana is a Balinese Hindu philosophy that focuses on maintaining harmony through the three centres of happiness. Self/Humanity, Nature & God. It recognises that these things are not separate but intricately woven together, the wellbeing of one impacts the wellbeing of another. That the seperation defining much of the culture in which I was raised, the one I see most often modelled around me, is an illusion.

Sarah Durham Wilson wrote “the way you alchemize a soulless world into a sacred world is by treating everyone as if they are sacred until the sacred in them remembers.”

Think of this next time you are sitting in traffic or in an argument with the one you love. Think of it tonight as you lay down in bed & close your eyes. Think of it while you take your next breath. Can I allow the borders of this moment to blur, allow the ecotone between bodies & boundaries to stretch? Can I become one with spirit?

This is for the women who have tried so many practices and modalities and still feel like something is missing. Who are still navigating painful cycles, low libido, ongoing fatigue or wondering where their joy has gone. Who have given so much time and energy to working on themselves and long to feel more of the pleasure of actually living in their bodies. Women navigating motherhood, menopause, heartbreak, career changes and everything in between.

It is moments like these that I am reminded yet again why I continue to stoke the fire within me. Why I will forever devote my life, my work, my heart to building a world in which women are revered in the way they deserve. Not only through their own eyes but in the eyes of our entire culture.

I want reverence to mean something in the way we live. I want it to become the backbone that holds up everything else. I want it to weave its way into our homes, our relationships, our conversations, our time alone, our celebrations, our parties, our pathways, our alleyways, our forests, our lakes, our bodies, our world.

Deep deep reverence for life.

We have a finite amount of energy in our bodies and a limit to what our awareness can orient towards in any given moment.

Choose what you are feeding your spirit. This doesn’t mean burying your head in the sand but rather recognising the power of turning towards all that is beautiful, all that is good, all that is love in this world.

Cause there is actually so much.

I want to know how you make love to your life? How you make love to your friends? How you make love with your own soft, supple, animal body?

Let this be your fuel.

I’ve never been good at keeping it succinct or getting straight to the point. I love a debate. I love the nuance, the complexity, the infinite.

Probably because it is who we are at our core.

Nuanced. Complex. Infinite.

My parents said as a kid my favourite word was “why”. I could never just accept anything as it was. I argued everything. (Not always in an inspiring way, also in a defiant and difficult way but then our greatest strengths are usually also our greatest weaknesses)

They said I should be a lawyer. Instead I’ve found women’s work. Which somehow seems related since we really need to be interrogating much of what we think we know.

I want to know why. I want you to know why.

Why you believe what you do? Why are you choosing what you are? Why do you think that, why do you say that, why do you want that?

This is what I explore in my spaces and in my newsletter. An encouragement to ask bigger and bolder questions and to look into places we haven’t. If you’d like to be apart of this conversation with me, join my newsletter.

It won’t be succinct, it will sometimes contradict, it will blend poetry with biology and education with embodiment. It will meander and explore in all the ways we are meant to in this life.

The truth is, most of what we’ve been taught about inhabiting our womanhood has been how to endure it. How to bury our grief, hide our blood, quiet our desire, distrust our bodies. Be more palatable & desirable without stopping to ask if we’re even enjoying our life.

I used to think it was admirable being able to endure. I think a lot of us carry this. A badge of honour for being tough, for being able to hold so much. But that weight wears away at more than you realise. I’d rather be seen as someone making love to my own life. Moving through the world with the taste of ecstasy on my tongue.

You deserve the fullest expression of being alive in your body. Immense joy, pleasure, or**sm. To be worshipped by your lover & know how to receive it. To move through life’s seasons with curiosity rather than dread.

Why are these desires indulgent when exhaustion & disconnection are embraced as status quo? No thanks, not for me.

For years I’ve run women’s retreats & worked with women like myself, who’ve spent years doing all the right things. Trying to understand themselves & do the work to show up as the mother, wife, partner, friend, artist, teacher they want to be. Yet still spiralling back to the same struggles in different shades. With all the language & tools, why is it still so hard to live differently?

Something is missing in how this work is taught. The nuances of a female body. A body that bleeds, cycles, longs for connection & finds direction through pleasure. That belongs to the earth & elements. How do we integrate what we’re learning if the body is forced to keep up with a life that leaves so little room for her?

Earth Body is born from my own unravelling & rebuilding. Questioning the lineages I’ve followed & all I thought was true. Slowly finding what actually lands in my body. What moves the dial in how I live, love, work & care for myself.

Join me this November in Aus to explore this in your own earthly body. Movement, somatic practices, womb connection & education about your female body. Space to feel what’s there & practise responding. To discover what caring for your body really looks & feels like.

Still landing from the most iconic weekend celebrating one of the loves of my life turning 40 Rebecca Milford in the most Bex fashion imaginable. In a castle in the English countryside, surrounded by our dearest friends, with absolutely no shortage of outrageousness.

These are the people who have become my family. Who show up through the difficult, the crazy, the stressful, the wonderful and everything in between. Who I can fall apart with and be completely ridiculous with. Who I can show every facet of myself with and am not only loved in spite of it but loved for every weird and wonderful piece.

Most of the year we are scattered across the globe, from Canada to India to Europe. Getting us together isn’t simple. But we keep making it happen. We cross oceans, we say yes, we show up. And my god, when we do, there’s not much that compares to this kind of love. It is a rare and beautiful thing to have a community across the globe that feels so tight knit and it’s made possible by the effort that every single one of these people puts in.

I don’t quite know how to put this weekend into words. Beyond ridiculous and fabulous. The costumes. The music. The dancing. The feasting. The cuddles. The cocktails. The joy of seeing people you love being 1000% themselves and by virtue of being in their presence getting to be entirely myself.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover how I feel about this lot, or what it means to keep coming back together as our lives take us in so many different directions.

And Bex, you absolute gem. Thank you for bringing us all together and giving us the best possible reason to go crazy in a castle. I love you endlessly. Happy Birthday beautiful 😍

I think we need to be asking bigger questions.

Not just

“Am I taking care of my body?”

But

“From what place am I taking care of her?”

We live in bodies that are deeply alive, wombs, hearts, fascia, even bones that are all listening and responding.

Not only to what we are choosing but also why we are choosing it.

Am I moving body because I want to be fitter because that’s what I think is more attractive? Or am I moving body to be supple and strong and able to carry me through my life without being in pain?

Am I building relationships with people who truly light me up and inspire me or am I seeking approval from people I think elevate my status?

Am I using my self care routine to actually listen and respond to what I need or am I checking boxes and ignoring what actually works for my unique physiology?

We cannot fool or force our bodies into thinking they are being accepted and loved no matter how much organic food we eat or pilates classes we go to.

It may take time to build. But like all healthy relationships when our bodies feel truly cared for and accepted they want to care back for us in return.
