I want you to imagine something for a moment:

Waking up and not immediately scanning for what's wrong.

Avoiding the thing that scares you feels like relief and in the short term, it is.

But every time we avoid something, the nervous system gets one more piece of evidence that that something really is dangerous.

The relief is real, but the cost is real too.

Avoidance keeps the fear alive.

But there is good news. If you move through that fear, the nervous system that originally learned to fear something can learn that it's actually safe. Gently. With the right support.

You don't have to keep living smaller than you want to.

Helen hadn't flown in 10 years.

She'd had a frightening experience on a flight and her nervous system made a very clear decision after that: flying is not safe.

But she had an overseas trip of a lifetime planned, with her husband and kids. And she didn't want fear to take that from her.

We worked together to help her nervous system release that old response and to update the story it had been carrying.

She got on the plane, had a relaxed flight and a fantastic holiday. And even the return flight was great.

Phobias are not personality traits. They're learned responses that can be unlearned.

'I've always had a sensitive gut. It's just how I am.'

I hear this often. And I understand why. When something has been part of your life for years, it starts to feel like a part of your identity.
