l BOWEL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH l

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia, yet many people are surprised to learn that it can affect people of all ages. Not just older adults.

Awareness matters because early detection can make a significant difference. Knowing the signs, understanding your risk, and participating in recommended screening programs are important steps in looking after your health.

At OMT, we recognise that a bowel cancer diagnosis can affect every aspect of a person's life. Physically, emotionally and socially. As oncology trained therapists, we understand the importance of supportive care that respects each person's unique medical situation, treatment plan and wellbeing.

This month, we encourage our community to take a few moments to learn more about bowel cancer, share trusted information, and have conversations that could help someone seek advice sooner.

💚 Knowledge leads to awareness. Awareness can lead to earlier detection.

l WHY HANDS ON LEARNING MATTERS l

“English is my second language, so I was nervous at first. But the in-person practical training made everything easier to understand and apply.”

At OMT, we are proud to support therapists from diverse cultural and language backgrounds as they develop specialist oncology massage skills.

Aria (Hyunah Lee), an OM2 graduate originally from South Korea, shared that while studying in a second language felt challenging initially, the blended learning structure and supervised practical training helped build both understanding and clinical confidence.

Our in-person practical workshops allow therapists to:

• Observe real-time demonstrations
• Practice adaptations with facilitator feedback
• Develop confidence through supervised repetition
• Translate theory into safe clinical application
• Strengthen communication and clinical reasoning skills

This is why OMT’s blended learning model matters. Online learning provides the evidence based foundation, while practical training supports therapists to integrate that knowledge safely and confidently into real-world practice.

We are proud to see a growing international community of therapists committed to safe, supportive cancer care and evidence-based practice.

Thank you, Aria, for being part of the OMT community.

l MMA CONFERENCE WRAP UP l

What a wonderful few days in Geelong we had last weekend.

The OMT team has returned home feeling inspired, grateful and reminded of the strength of our professional community.

Over the conference weekend, we had the opportunity to reconnect with graduates and colleagues, meet therapists curious about oncology massage for the very first time, and have countless conversations about safe, evidence based care for people affected by cancer.

We loved sharing more about the work we do, learning from presenters across the profession, exploring new ideas and catching up with familiar faces along the way.

And yes... there may have been some dancing after the Gala Dinner 💃

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the OMT stand, shared their experiences, asked questions or simply came over to say hello.

Events like this remind us why community matters. Together, we're helping build a profession that values safety, clinical confidence, ongoing learning and compassionate care for people living with cancer and other complex health conditions.

We're already planning for 2027....in Cairns!

| AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST MORNING TEA |

Throughout May and June, people across Australia are hosting morning teas, workplace catchups and community gatherings to raise funds for Cancer Council through Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

It’s a simple idea, but one that continues to make a real difference.

For many people affected by cancer, support extends far beyond medical treatment. It includes the people who show up, check in, raise awareness, donate, volunteer and help create stronger support networks within the community.

At OMT, we see how important compassionate, informed supportive care can be for people living with cancer and complex health conditions. Initiatives like Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea help fund vital cancer research, support services and prevention programs, while also encouraging important conversations around cancer care and community support.

Whether you host a morning tea, attend one, donate or simply help spread awareness, every contribution matters.

If you’re taking part this May or June, thank you for helping support Australians affected by cancer. We’d love to see how our community is getting involved.
If you’re hosting or attending a Biggest Morning Tea this May or June, pop a photo in the comments and share what you’re doing to support people affected by cancer 💚

l GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT - LEAH ROBERTSON l

Professional growth grounded in safety, compassion and evidence based care.

A recent OM2 graduate from Sea of Tranquility Health & Wellness shared how Oncology Massage Training Ltd helped deepen both practical skills and clinical understanding when supporting clients affected by cancer.

“The training expanded both my practical skills and theoretical knowledge, allowing me to safely adapt treatments to support each client’s individual needs.”

OM2 supports therapists to move beyond theory and confidently apply oncology informed adaptations in real clinical scenarios through supervised practical learning, communication practice and evidence based frameworks.

Congratulations to our May 2026 graduate, Leah, who completed OM2 with Tania Shaw and is continuing to provide safe, nurturing and professionally informed care within her community.

If you have completed OM1 and are ready to strengthen your confidence and hands on oncology massage skills, visit our website to see upcoming OM2 training dates.
