๐Ÿ’œ During the teenage years, hygiene becomes more important. Does your young person hate washing their hair? This can have different reasons. If it's the runny liquid, try using soap bars instead. They can be a great alternative to shampoo and conditioner!

๐Ÿ’œWe listen to your feedback!
One of the best parts of our work is hearing how families use Planet Puberty resources in everyday life.
Recently, a parent contacted us to share how much she values our visual schedules, particularly while supporting her child to learn hygiene skills. As she worked through the Cleaning your P***s visual schedule with her child, she noticed an important step was missing. She thoughtfully added it herself and then let us know so we could improve the resource for everyone.
Thanks to her feedback, we've updated our resources and created two new visual schedules:
โ€ข Cleaning a circumcised p***s
โ€ข Cleaning an uncircumcised p***s
These free resources are now available to download on the Planet Puberty website.
If you've adapted one of our visual schedules or have suggestions for how we can improve a resource, we'd love to hear from you. Your ideas help make Planet Puberty better for everyone.

During puberty, fine childhood hair changes into thicker, darker hair. This happens because of hormonal changes.

Some young people worry that once body hair starts growing, it will keep growing and growing until they look like a werewolf. They may not realise that body hair grows in predictable patterns and doesn't just keep spreading endlessly.

Modelling is a great way to reassure your child. If someone in your family regularly removes facial or body hair, they can show your child what happens when they leave it to grow for a while. This can help reassure your child that body hair grows in predictable ways and doesn't keep growing forever.

๐Ÿ’œThere are a lot of new skills to master during puberty.
Some skills will take longer to learn than other skills.
All learning is important and worth celebrating!
It doesn't need to be perfect.
Progress is the aim!

๐Ÿ’œWhat's that smell?! It might well be your teen!

During puberty, shifting hormones cause the body's sweat glands to become much more active. It's not the sweat itself that smells, it's the bacteria on the skin breaking down the sweat that causes the smell.

Sweating during puberty is completely normal and expected.
Good hygiene routines become more important and the armpits, feet and groin need extra attention.

When teaching your child new routines, visual supports can help. For example, to teach all the steps needed for putting on deodorant.

You can find this visual schedule herehttps://www.planetpuberty.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/How-to-use-deodorant-F.pdf

Children and young people with disability may learn about their bodies, relationships, privacy, hygiene and puberty in different ways and at different times.

What matters most is not how quickly your child learns, but that they are given the information, support and encouragement they need to grow in their own way.

This Disability Pride Month, we're celebrating every child's unique journey through puberty and beyond.

๐Ÿ’œ Small steps count.
๐Ÿ’œ Progress looks different for everyone.
๐Ÿ’œ Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and thrive.
