At just 40, Rose was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). What followed was a year of intensive treatment that changed almost every part of her life, impacting not only Rose, but also the family who stood beside her every step of the way.

Today, NBCF-funded researchers are working to develop more targeted and effective treatments for breast cancer, giving people like Rose more options and families more hope for the future.

🏃‍♀️ 446 runners. $314,668 raised. 42.2km conquered. All for breast cancer research. 🩷

On Sunday 30 August 2026, our incredible Team Pink took on the iconic Sydney Marathon, united by one goal: to raise vital funds and awareness for breast cancer research.

After months of long training runs and dedicated fundraising, our team gave everything they had. On race day, they pushed themselves through 42.2 kilometres across the streets of Sydney.

Before race day, our runners joined us at the NBCF Sydney office to hear from special guest speakers, gain expert marathon advice and learn how their fundraising is helping fund life-saving breast cancer research.

A huge thank you to every runner, volunteer and supporter who helped make this journey possible, bringing us closer to our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer. You’re making a huge difference!

Your reminder to be breast aware! 💕

Being breast aware means being familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel, so you can notice any changes over time. There’s no special technique or set schedule, just regularly paying attention to your breasts during everyday moments like showering, getting dressed, applying lotion or looking in the mirror.

Know your normal and be aware of changes, such as:
• A new lump, swelling or thickened area
• Changes in breast size, shape or appearance
• Dimpling, redness or changes to the skin
• Ni**le changes or unexpected discharge
• Swelling or discomfort in the armpit or near the collarbone
• Persistent, unusual breast or ni**le pain

Most breast changes aren't cancer, but if you notice any changes, a quick check with your GP or a healthcare professional can make all the difference. 🎀

This year's Step Up to Breast Cancer challenge has been nothing short of incredible. 💗 We've seen personal milestones reached and entire communities coming together. We are so inspired by the determination and generosity behind every step.

One participant who truly stepped up was Ness, who completed an incredible 115km walk from Walgett to Coonamble on Saturday. 👟💕

Ness stepped up for all those in her community affected by breast cancer, sharing that she has a close friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer and thankfully survived. Ness shared, "she is one of many [affected] that I know and love and one of the many faces I walked for."

What began as a personal challenge quickly became a community effort, with locals turning the town pink, helping raise funds for breast cancer research, and cheering Ness on every step of the way.

Ness' story is a powerful reminder of what Step Up is all about: bringing people together to help fund world-class breast cancer research. 🔬💗

Congratulations to Ness and her community, and to all 10,881 participants who are stepping up this year. Every step is helping create a better future for everyone affected by breast cancer. 👏

Isla's life changed in an instant when she was diagnosed with stage 3 (III) breast cancer after initially dismissing her symptoms as part of pregnancy.

Just five days after starting treatment, her son Freddie arrived early. While navigating new motherhood, Isla was also undergoing intensive treatment, making an already difficult journey even more complex.

In October 2024, Isla finished her last treatment and rang the bell, signaling the end of her cancer treatment. Today, she is grateful for the advances in breast cancer treatment that have allowed her to continue making precious memories with her family. She continues to be a passionate advocate for breast cancer research and awareness and has been nominated for Patients Australia's 2026 Outstanding Patient Advocate Award.

Isla's story is a powerful reminder of why ongoing breast cancer research matters.

💗 Pink Hero of the Month: Wendy 💗

Meet Wendy, this month's Pink Hero, whose fundraiser was about more than raising money. It was a way to say "thank you".

After being diagnosed with breast cancer for a third time, Wendy is now living with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Faced with another difficult chapter, she decided to turn her experience into hope by raising funds for breast cancer research.

Having experienced chemotherapy-related hair loss before, Wendy decided to shave her head and embrace the challenge once again. Inspired by the potential of research to change future outcomes, she launched a fundraiser aptly named 'Doing It for the Next Generation'.

The event was a heartfelt thank you to the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones who have supported her and generously donated to the cause throughout her journey. In a touching show of support, her friend's 17-year-old son and her best friend's husband shaved their heads alongside her.

When asked about the most significant moment in her breast cancer journey, Wendy's answer was simple but powerful: "Realising just how loved I am and how many people I have supporting me every step of the way."

Thanks to the generosity of her community, 'Doing It for the Next Generation' raised an incredible $3,924 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

While Wendy knows research may not change her own diagnosis, she hopes it will help create a brighter future for the next generation facing breast cancer.

Thank you, Wendy, for your courage, generosity and determination to make a difference. You are a true Pink Hero. 💖✨

From Perth to Sydney, and from new mums to grandmas, our new Community Ambassadors represent diverse breast cancer experiences from communities across Australia. While each journey is unique, they're united by one shared goal: Zero Deaths from breast cancer.

Joining our wider network of dedicated NBCF Ambassadors, they'll work alongside us, sharing their stories, raising awareness and inspiring communities to take action and fundraise for world-class breast cancer research.
