Aussie parents, we’re finally getting 26 weeks of leave + 12% Super!

If you’re pregnant or navigating life with a newborn, the government has officially upgraded Paid Parental Leave to end the "motherhood penalty" on your retirement. For babies arriving on or after 1 July 2026, total paid leave stretches to 26 full weeks, and the ATO will now automatically pay a 12% super contribution on top of your government leave pay. Just note that 4 weeks of this pool are strictly "use-it-or-lose-it" for your partner, and you don't need extra forms—just lodge your usual PPL claim up to 3 months early via myGov. Just make sure your Super Fund details are active tonight so that free government cash doesn't get stuck in the ATO system!
