Our Italian Cook-Off was a huge success! We learned new cooking skills, worked as a team, shared stories and enjoyed an incredible feast together.

🇮🇹🍝 HEARTFUL HANGS – ITALIAN COOK-OFF 🍝🇮🇹

Join us for a morning of connection, cooking and community as we come together to prepare a delicious Italian-inspired meal.

Participants will learn basic cooking and kitchen safety skills, practice teamwork, build confidence in the kitchen and enjoy a shared meal in a relaxed and supportive environment.

❤️ No cooking experience needed.
❤️ Bring your support worker if required.
❤️ Please let us know of any dietary requirements.

There is a certain elegance about him that is hard to miss. The way he carries himself, the way he eats, and the way he moves through the world.

Naturally built for connection, Douglas has a calm and gentle presence. He seems deeply intuitive, often sensing the emotions of those around him and offering quiet companionship when it’s needed most.

He adores children and, once he feels safe and comfortable, his playful side begins to shine through.

This month is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Awareness Month 💜

I wanted to acknowledge someone very special to us at Heartful, the lovely Byron who lives with a severe form of EDS.

I’ve watched Byron go through operation after operation, long recoveries, setbacks, pain, and moments where life has completely stopped for him physically. There are periods where he’s been bedridden and out of action for months at a time.

But what stands out most to me is the way he chooses to live when he does have strength.

He doesn’t waste those moments.

He takes his art, his dog, and his heart into the community. He offers free hugs, dog pats, conversation, kindness, and connection to strangers. He shares love so openly despite everything he carries physically.

Alongside him is Winter, his beautiful companion therapy dog and loyal best friend. She goes everywhere with him and has supported him through some of the hardest moments of his journey. Truly an angel beside him through it all.

I think there’s something really powerful about that.

EDS is not always visible, and many people living with chronic illness are fighting battles others cannot see.

You may even see Byron around the busy streets and beaches of Sydney spreading awareness, kindness and connection. Stop for a chat, a hug, or a pat with Winter 💜

Thank you Byron for reminding people to slow down, connect, appreciate life, and not take the simple moments for granted.

May is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Awareness Month 💗🦓

EDS is a connective tissue disorder that can impact joints, organs, skin, mobility, pain levels and everyday life.

A lot of people living with EDS spend years being misunderstood, misdiagnosed or told their symptoms are “just anxiety” or “all in their head.” That’s part of why the zebra became the symbol for EDS and rare diseases.

Awareness matters. Understanding matters. Compassion matters.
