Have you ever had a parenting situation where you felt out of control? Triggered?🤯 Yep...it's part of being human. Most of us feel we don't have any choice in these situations, that the problem actually lies somewhere outside of us. Here's the thing though...in the words of Victor Frankel (Man's search for meaning), "Between stimulus and response there is a space, and in that space lies choice." When we bring awareness to our thinking in these moments, we give ourselves choice on how we want to respond🌸. Our thinking directly informs our response, but in these trigger moments because we're reacting, what we're thinking is pretty much out of our conscious awareness. That's why I call it parenting on autopilot. Bring awareness to your thinking and you get to choose your response...that gives you the power to parent the way you desire 🤩 🙌 ⁠

Do you give yourself permission to make mistakes? Chances are most of us feel bad about making mistakes, yet they are fantastic learning opportunities and we can't grow without them. Same goes for our kids. Try these 5 ways of helping your kids learn from mistakes⁠
⁠
🌸. When you make a mistake, be accepting and open about it with your kids. Bring some lightness to the situation. Explain what happened, what you learnt from the experience and how you could do things differently next time.⁠
🌸. Give children (...and yourself :)) 'safe-to-fail' boundaries. These are guidelines that step them (and probably you) slightly outside of their comfort zone, with enough risk to stretch them so they can make a mistake and learn.⁠
🌸 Practice forgiveness and avoid the blame game when things go pear shaped! Remember there is a positive intention in every action - people are not their behaviour.⁠
🌸. Practice compassion...and avoid personalising the experience. Focus on what happened through an objective lens.⁠
🌸 Engage your child in the alternatives where you can. Ask questions like - what would you like to do differently next time. Why would that be important to you?⁠

👉. Ask youself - what is truly important to me that I choose to invest myself in? Then with that answer ask youself....and what do I value about that?⁠

🔥. Seeking validation from others - we call this conditional self-esteem, because we look for others to value our worth⁠

TRY THESE:⁠
💗. Reflect before saying yes. Ask yourself what is the positive intention of saying 'yes' here (e.g. is it to receive appreciation and feel acceptance, or because intrinsically it feels true for you to do so?)⁠
💗. Prioritise your needs....maybe first you might need to discover these if you've been neglecting them 🥰⁠
💗. Connect with your intrinsic human value - stop looking on the outside for it....it's not there!!!⁠

Holding onto what we're used to can give us a feeling of certainty, yet it can also stop us from spreading our wings and growing into our potential. Mostly what stops us is the fear of uncertainty when we actually let go. But if we can accept and acknowledge our fear, it can pass as we begin to experience the freedom and joy of moving towards what we desire.⁠
