Katrina's Family Nutrition

Katrina's Family Nutrition Helping women & teens become their best selves with food, mindset and lifestyle support. Katrina has a strong interest in teenage and women’s health.

Katrina Harrington is a Clinical Nutritionist with a Health Science degree in Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine. Prior to becoming a Nutritionist, Katrina spent over 20 years working in corporate Human Resources and project management, so has extensive experience building relationships and helping people navigate challenging circumstances. After years of helping people find jobs and supporting the

ir career progression, Katrina decided to turn her hand to helping improve people’s health. Katrina completed her Bachelor of Health Science at Endeavour College of Natural Health in 2020, graduating with Distinction and receiving the Australian Natural Therapists Association Graduate award. Passionate about helping families improve their health with practical and sustainable advice, Katrina established Katrina’s Family Nutrition. Katrina sees clients at her home clinic in Cherrybrook, at their homes in surrounding suburbs and online via Zoom. In addition to seeing clients one-on-one, Katrina runs teenage workshops which educate and empower teens to take control of their health. When she’s not helping clients, Katrina can be found looking after her family (a husband, three teenage children and a cavoodle called Scooby), or getting her regular dose of exercise, which can be anything from running to visiting the gym to coaching/playing/umpiring netball. She also loves skiing in winter; fortunately her family share her enthusiasm for this, with all five of them hitting the slopes every year together.

Maybe it's not a willpower problem.

Maybe you're not lazy.

Maybe you're not lacking discipline.

Maybe you're trying to lose weight while:

👉 Feeling hungry all the time
👉 Running on poor sleep
👉 Dealing with stress
👉 Following advice that isn't right for your body

One of the biggest shifts I see with clients is when they stop blaming themselves and start understanding what's actually going on.

Because when your body is working with you instead of against you, weight loss feels very different.

Less struggle.

Less white-knuckling.

More consistency.

What if the problem isn't you.

What if the problem is that you don't have a plan that works for you?

I talk a lot here about my teen coaching.

And you may be wondering why a Clinical Nutritionist spends so much time talking about teen mindset?

It's simple.

Nutrition is essential to health.

Mindset is essential to well being.

When I was in student clinic for my Nutrition degree, a few friends brought their teens in to see me.

I loved working with them and promised myself I'd continue that when I started my business.

Initially, I worked mostly with women and mums - struggling with weight gain, hormonal fluctuations, digestive complaints.

The odd teen here and there.

But teens don't want to spend much time talking about food.

They're much more interested in talking about their friends, exploring different perspectives, understanding how they can be more confident, improve their sports performance, stay awake at school, manage conflict.

And so my business evolved, and now I offer both nutrition and mindset support.

Some people need more nutrition guidance.

Some people need more mindset support.

Some people need both.

Recently, I was invited to a podcast with Abouchabake to share my journey into Teen Coaching, which has been in no small part thanks to support and guidance from Lenita's Teen Coach Academy.

This one is worth celebrating properly. 🏆

Two incredible parent clients were recognised with awards at my most recent Nourish & Thrive masterclass.

And I want to take a moment to honour what that actually means.

Their parent milestone was earned through consistency.

Through the willingness to do things differently, even when it was uncomfortable, because they could see what staying the same was costing their family.

Both families came into the Nourish & Thrive: Mindset for Teen Success journey with the same quiet hope most parents carry:

"I just want to do what’s best for my teen."

In the middle of our masterclass, in a room full of parents doing this same courageous work, they were presented with the Next Generation Parent Award.

Not for being perfect parents. For being present ones.

This is what separates the families who see lasting change from those who stay stuck: it's not more information.

It's supported, real-life implementation, with someone in their corner while they actually do the work.

Proud doesn't begin to cover it.

Congratulations to both award recipients. You've shown your teens and every parent watching what it looks like to lead from the front.

This is the work. ✨ And it is only just the beginning.

Feel like you're doing everything 'right' ... yet results don't seem to be in your favour?
🔎 You're eating the "right" things
🔎 You're exercising
🔎 You're trying to 'connect' with your teen
🔎 You're working your butt off trying to keep everyone else in the house happy ... yet feeling miserable yourself
_______________________________________________________________________
These are patterns I see all the time with my clients.

Why aren't they seeing results?

The 'right' foods might not be right for them.

Or could be the timing is all out (all day grazing versus three balanced meals) 🥗

Maybe there's too much cardio focus, or not enough recovery time 🏃‍♀️‍➡️

They're not quite hitting the right note with their teen, or misinterpreting each others' body language 🙄

They're so focused on everyone else, they've buried their own needs so deep they've forgotten what they actually are 🤔
_____________________________________________________________________

So, we work together to get to the heart of what's getting in their way, what steps they can take to get "unstuck" (that's a technical term right?) and what support they need to put these steps into action.

Simple things like a diet audit.

Or an understanding of what exercise will best support their body.

Or working with their teen to build communication and connection skills.

And then, they start seeing results.

If any of this resonates, if it's time to start getting the results you want, comment "LET"S GO" and let's have a chat.

"I cut out carbs.... but now I just find I'm exhausted all the time. AND it's made no difference to the scales"

"I hardly eat any fats but nothing is shifting!"

With so much focus on protein these days (and yes, protein is essential!), it's easy to think the other macronutrients can be cast aside.

Carbs and fats aren't the enemy.

They're just as important as protein.

With the right balance and the right type of carbs and fats alongside your protein, you CAN both feel energised and lose weight (if that's your goal).

That's the beauty of Metabolic Balance - no guesswork, perfectly balanced meals tailored to your unique needs.

I was honoured to be given the opportunity to run a workshop with young netball coaches (and quite a few mums too) last week 💛

I shared simple communication strategies, tips about how young people learn and ways to support everyone in a team as they learn new skills.

What stood out most?

👉 When we improve communication, everything changes.

Coaching becomes more effective.

Confidence grows.

Connection strengthens.

And it reminded me — this isn’t just relevant for sport.

It applies at home.

It applies to parenting.

And it applies to our own health goals too.

Because whether we’re supporting our young coaches, supporting our teens or supporting ourselves…

School is back.

Routines are settling.

Life feels (slightly) more manageable again.

And then the thought comes:
“I really need to focus on my health.”

Before winter sport kicks off and weekends fill up again… this is your window.

In my latest blog, I share a personal story from years at the netball courts — and why connection, planning ahead, and having a simple structure can make all the difference 💛

Now that school routines have settled… what about you?

Many parents (typically mums) spend the first part of the year organising everyone else:
▪ school supplies
▪ sport registrations
▪ schedules
▪ uniforms
▪ activities

Suddenly it's mid-March and they realise:
"𝐼 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑛'𝑡 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑓𝑜𝑐𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑜𝑛 𝑚𝑦 𝑜𝑤𝑛 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑡ℎ 𝑦𝑒𝑡."

Now is the perfect time to start.

Because in a few more weeks...
▪ winter sport starts
▪ weekends get busy
▪ schedules fill up again

Starting 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐲 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧 makes everything easier.

If improving your health or losing weight has been sitting quietly on your “I should do that” list, now is a great time to begin.

Ever notice that when you say you're trying to “eat healthier,” it can sometimes create tension at home?

Last week I talked about how 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬.

The same principle applies to health goals at home.

When family members don’t understand why you're making changes, it can create confusion or resistance.

Many women start a health journey with the best intentions — more energy, better health, feeling stronger in their bodies.

But sometimes families hear something different.
They might hear:
• “Everything we eat is wrong.”
• “Mum is dieting again.”
• “This is going to make meals complicated.”

That’s why 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬.

One thing that helps enormously is h𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧.

When I work with clients through 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 ®, they get:

✔ clear meal structure
✔ specific food combinations
✔ simple guidelines to follow

Instead of constantly explaining your choices, you can simply say:
"This is the plan I’m following for my health."

Clarity removes confusion — for you and for your family.

And when things feel clear and consistent, it’s much easier for the people around you to support you.

Sometimes the biggest benefit of an MB plan isn’t just the nutrition…

It’s the confidence and communication it creates. 💛

Every teen needs at least one safe adult.

Teens thrive when they feel connected to at least one trusted adult.

That might be:
▪ A parent
▪ A coach
▪ A teacher
▪ A mentor

Connection builds confidence.

Confidence improves communication.

Communication reduces risk behaviours.

Encourage your teen to build safe relationships:
• Talk positively about teachers
• Support involvement in sport or leadership
• Create opportunities to mentor younger kids
• Model respectful communication at home

And remember — your role isn’t to control every outcome.

It’s to stay connected.

That’s also why in my teen coaching, I stay connected with parents too. Improving communication at home supports everything we work on in sessions.

Strong connection = stronger teens 💛
