So much learning happens when travelling and visiting practices overseas. Every day sparks new ideas, conversations and inspiration… and honestly, by the end of the day I never want to spend time on social media when I could be soaking it all in. I will definitely share the learnings with you ✈️🌍

Right now, in a very exciting milestone in my Year of Celebration… I’m giving myself a full 2-week digital detox while cruising the Mediterranean. 🎉🚢

Possibly my greatest personal challenge of 2026 so far. 😂

The good news? My team are incredible and everything continues as normal while I recharge, learn and reset.

If you need support with any LMS or course-related issues, please make sure you cc Sue Cummins at [email protected] — my wonderful right-hand human who keeps everything running smoothly. 💛

Marg and Michelle are also busy training and preparing to attend onsite for upcoming Bp Premier conversion go-lives.

With Sue, Marg and Michelle, you are in the best of hands while I’m offline.

I will share the learnings and reflections when I return. Until then… less screen time, more relaxation for me.

Remember, rest is not optional and neither should celebrating all the hard won successes be optional. As I leave I am thinking of you all and grateful to all those who have been part of the Train IT Medical story these past 20 years. See you in 2 weeks 🚢 🥳💖

Mammos in May 🎀
Simple primary care ideas can make a real difference in preventive healthcare. This catchy breast screen promotion outside a general practice immediately caught my attention.

Reunited with our OT Brooke in the US for our 3rd global study tour 🙌

With 40 years of allied health experience across multiple countries — and a family full of first responders — spending time with Brooke is always a masterclass in gentle change leadership, holistic care and perspective.

When Brooke speaks, I stop and listen. She brings incredible wisdom, insight and value to Team Train IT Medical and every project every single day.

She’s also one of the kindest, most generous and genuinely fun humans you could ever meet.

And for those new here… yes, she is my sister 💖

Happy International Nurses Day to two of the very best in the business — Michelle Horswood (far left) and Marg Windsor (far right). 😍

Pictured here with me (Katrina) and Monique from Team Train IT Medical, this was a rare and special moment where we were all together to celebrate, connect and laugh.

Missing from the photo were Sue and Andrea (currently in WA), and Brooke (US-based). Stay tuned though as I’ll be catching up with Brooke very soon for another study tour adventure.

I never take for granted being surrounded by women who bring such extraordinary knowledge, wisdom, care and generosity to Australian healthcare practices. Together we share more than 150 years of nursing, practice management and allied health experience and I am endlessly grateful to know our clients get to work with and learn from women who lead with both heart and genuine expertise. 💖

Huge thanks to Kunal Mohite and the team from Capital Health Network for superior organisation of our recent training events ‘Managing Challenging Patient Encounters’. There is so much additional value to be gained by attending training in person, sharing experiences with colleagues and networking. Thank you for providing this for the medical receptionists and Practice Managers of Canberra.

🚀 FREE AI WEBINAR FOR GENERAL PRACTICE TEAMS

Our 4th webinar is coming up soon - 30 April — and this one is all about admin tasks and tools to make your lives a little easier.

If you’re a Practice Manager, receptionist or nurse, this session is for you.

We’ll cover practical, realistic ways AI can reduce workload in everyday tasks like documentation, meetings, policies, training, quality improvement, and those tricky patient/staff conversations.

This webinar is free, kindly sponsored by Care GP, who will showcase document automation and AI Receptionist tools.

For those who are already happily using AI tools, I’ve invited my business innovation coach, Liam, to come along and teach us how to create AI “agents” in Claude to help streamline repeat admin tasks.

📅 Thursday 30 April
🕧 12:30–1:10 pm AEDT
🎁 Free + recording for all registrants

Last week I ran workshops on ‘Managing Challenging Patient Encounters’ in Canberra, and I was genuinely humbled by the conversations.

Hearing the stories of medical receptionists, admin teams and nurses is always confronting, even after my 30 years in healthcare.

Stories of intimidation. Overwhelm. Abuse.
“Standing over me.”
“Standing too close to me.”
“Not letting me speak.”
“Yelling at me”
“Screaming at me”

These are shared experiences for many people working at the front desk of healthcare.

We talked about practical strategies — not just for handling difficult conversations, but for protecting themselves too.
How not to take the emotion of the day home.
How to sleep after hard days at the practice.
How to deal with complex teams and personalities.

In one exercise I asked the medical receptionists and PMs in the group to raise their hand if they had consciously chosen a career in medical reception or practice management — versus who just found themselves in the role.

One hand went up.

That distinction matters. It’s a heavy expectation.

💕 To everyone who attended on the day, thank you for all you do. Your work matters more than you are often told.

If anyone working in a medical practice would like a copy of the De-escalation Guide I created for these workshops, feel free to email me at [email protected].

I’m always here for you. 🤗
